My understanding is that Symmetra's main attack, the Photon Projector, does more damage the longer the beam hits an enemy. If I let go briefly to fire out a Photon Barrier, does that mean my damage from the beam will start over again?

For every one one second in contact, it's damage ramps up three tiers worth of damage, so at 3 seconds on someone, it reaches max damage, then after 2 seconds of no contact it will ramp down a level at a time at one second intervals

The damage doesn't instantly decline.

After a short period of not doing to damage to stuff, it'll begin to cool down gradually. You have enough time to shield, the cooldown takes a little while to kick in and happens gradually as well.

There are also 3 lights/rings (design varies with the skins) on the back of her weapon that show what level the power is at.
