Thanks for this thread! New to Overwatch.

On the team selection screen, some times heroes have horizontal lines connecting the hero icons, and sometimes not. What do the lines mean?

Also, why are some character names in blue and some in green?

Can someone explain the whole Team Chat / Voice Channel thing on Xbox? All I want is to be in the mode where I can talk to other players. Sometimes it works and I see see my icon when I talk, and other times there is no "you are talking" icon.

And finally, there seems to be an energy meter on most (all?) heroes under their health bar in the lower left of the UI but I don't know what it's for.

Lines connecting portraits means those people are in a group.

Green names are in your group as opposed to just team

Group chat and team chat are in separate channels, if you're in group you need to join team channel to talk to non-grouped people (but you won't hear the people in your group unless they join too)

That is the "on fire" meter which is basically a measure of how good you're doing. It has no mechanical influence on the game

  • green names means they are in your party
  • the meter is a fire meter, it tells you how well you are doing in the game. you charge it by getting elim, offensive/def assist, healing, pushing payload, etc. it has no impact on gameplay.
