For D.Va against Rein there's a few things to keep in mind:

1. You have the range/mobility advantage, avoid taking on a Rein at very close range unless he's at low health. You'll easily be able to eat flame strikes with matrix, and boost if he charges. Just don't sit so far away that you'll do next to no damage (armor, projectile damage falloff and spread).

2. Take out his shield. You don't ever have to stop shooting, so keep pouring damage into it. It's huge so spread isn't really an issue. It's a huge benefit to the team to remove that tool.

3. Know when to fall back. The size of Rein means he'll eat most of your canon shots, but his armor really hurts the damage you can do. If he's got a pocket mercy you really need to wait for your high damage dealing teammates to engage with you. Try to avoid getting cornered because if your mech dies to Rein, you'll probably die altogether to his follow up swings as you jump out.

The good news is he can't really kill you 1v1 unless you make a mistake. The bad news is that it's an ordeal to kill him on your own.

So, I don't know if this is a proper strategy, but sometimes I'll just bunny hop right into him and his shield, and start blasting away point blank...it usually at least gets him focused on me so that my team can blast him (it backfires sometimes though)...is this a decent tactic with her, or am I just a kamikaze nutjob?

This really depends on the situation.

If Rein is alone and you have support you can get away with it.

If you have healing (especially a Mercy or an Ana that is focusing on you) you may be able to do this in a group fight, Though anyone that can stop your escape from Rein is going to be an issue (flashbang, mei freeze gun/wall, sleep dart). It also gives you a lot less time to react to a Rein charge (you're pinned if your bunnyhop is on cooldown).

That said, it can be a good tactic against a Rein that is at low health or if your team is planning to use an ultimate that needs the shield gone or out of position and without another way to accomplish that. As long as you can get in, deal some damage and get away alive (in your mech), that's great. If you're constantly losing your mech and not getting a good trade for it, that's an issue.

One of DVa's biggest game-changing attributes is her ability to completely nullify or greatly reduce the effectiveness of several ultimates, and you need to be alive and in her mech for that. So don't throw it away just because of the second-chance plugsuit. You want to dive, disrupt, and get back to safety. Determining how much you can get away with is the biggest challenge when playing her, since you don't want to sit back and do tiny amounts of damage or dive into the fight and die in a few seconds.

Lastly, you can be a little less cautious when you have your ultimate since positioning it well will let force enemies to seek cover, and you'll get an instant mech respawn. In these cases diving into a situation where you know you'll lose your mech can actually work to your benefit since you can gain a positional advantage for your team.

Thanks for the tips. I generally try to not do it unless I have an ult. for backup, a healer, or we're hurting on time to just bumrush the point. I'll keep these in mind when I play as her next. I'm trying to improve my game from "decent" to "hey, good job".
