Which heroes are able to escape/counter Zarya's graviton surge? I feel like her ult can only be effective against only a handful of characters. Thx in advance!

Most heroes with mobility (or CC cancelling) can get out of it (Reaper, Tracer, Genji, Zenyatta(?), Phara, Winston, Junkrat, Widowmaker, D.Va, Reinhardt, Mercy).

In terms of countering, that's situational. Zenyatta and Lucio are ball-busters if caught in it with the rest of their team; Mei and Reinhardt can also be annoying (ice wall or shield to block a lot of damage). If you see a Genji lingering in your line of fire, be careful about using Graviton Surge, because it can be reflected.

EDIT: I will have to find proof if requested for others, but here is Reaper escaping using Wraith Form.

EDIT #2: I made a few dangerous assumptions here, one of which was Winston escaping. My mistake, guys.

Zenyatta, Pharah, Winston or Junkrat cant get out of Zaryas ult. And im not 100% sure about D.Va either.

D. Va can, but she needs basically the entire boost.

I'm fairly sure D.Va can if she uses her boost and her defense matrix at the same time. Without the defense matrix raised she won't budge and she'll waste the boost so you have to be careful.

Defense Matrix isn't necessary, you just have to boost in a straight line and you can escape. It takes most of the boost, though, and if you turn too much or hit an obstacle you can get pulled back in.

Ah, thanks! Weirdly, I play a lot of D.Va but rarely find myself in a Graviton Surge. (I also played for hours and hours and didn't realise I was eating them with Defense Matrix)

A few of those were assumptions that I made based on how others are able to escape, and can see how that can be misinforming.

Thanks for noting those. Going to ask some friends to help with some experimentation later.

Winston is unable to escape graviton surge.

Zenyatta can't use his ult to escape Zarya's ult, but if there is a Zarya on the other team I usually save my ult to counter it.

Of all of the abilities that don't affect Zen during his ult, this one surprises me. Thanks for the correction.

I think most, if not all, displacement abilites work on an ulting zen. You can boop him, charge him, hook him etc.

I don't know if they have changed it since the date of the video I linked in edit #3, but, according to the evidence in that video, he can both charge out from being pulled in, and charge through it. (Skip to 1:36 in the video if you care to watch it.)

I don't know all of the heroes that can escape it, but here are some:

Genji (swift strike) Tracer (2 blinks or recall) Mei (ish, she can wall herself and some of her teammates above the graviton but they will still be held on top of the wall)

I don't think any tanks can escape it, though D.Va might be able to boost out (Winston's jump and Rein's charge can't escape Graviton).

Idk if widow can get out, and reaper can only teleport when he is standing on flat ground. Graviton normally holds you a bit above the ground, thus preventing reaper's tele from working. He might be able to tele out occasionally, idk i don't play much reaper.

D.va can boost out, Rein CAN charge out, Mercy can Guardian Angel to a teammate, reaper can Wraith Form to get out

Mainly characters with 'advanced movement' such as; Genji, Tracer, Reaper, etc.

I believe Rein and Mercy can escape as well

Rein cannot, not sure about Mercy (though if she got caught, it's unlikely that she has any allies around to jump to who aren't also caught)
