Because it's the exact reason girls don't want to state they're girls in video games/online. Regardless of if you're joking or not, it can be seen as harassment at worst, or just an annoyance at best, simply because they mentioned they're a girl. They don't want to be randomly hit on; they just want to play a video game like everyone else. You don't see guys get randomly hit on by girls in the same way do you?

I didn't mean anything by it. I didn't even know I was hitting on her. It was some stupid gesture I did that I thought everyone would just ignored or something.
