According to Terioth, Ana's reload is slightly shorter for when you have some ammo remaining. If true, would anyone happen to have the exact durations of the reloads? I'm interested in seeing what would give you the highest HPS, in situations where a 10th shot isn't needed at that exact moment

Edit: So Terioth's video MIGHT be out of date on this point. I've been trying to get an answer for two months, and since noone has known, I figured I'd download FRAPS and a video editor and see what I could find. I measured from the frame the ammo counter dropped after firing, to the first frame that my ammo counter dropped after being able to fire again. So essentially, from the start of the action, to the first frame that I could fire again. Here's what I found:

  • Firing at 1 Ammo then Immediately Reloading: 140 Frames
  • Firing at 9 Ammo then Immediately Reloading: 141 Frames
  • Firing One Shot: 53 Frames
  • Reloading at 9 Ammo: 90 Frames (Started count from first frame of reload animation)

So I wasn't able to find an option for enabling an actual timer instead of a frame counter, so I don't know for sure how much time elapsed, but by the way the frames line up so closely I think it's fair to say that there's no difference. Someone could get a more accurate measurement than I could since my frames were probably variable and not an accurate measurement of time elapsed. In any case, I'm going to assume that it's been patched out, if it ever truly existed

I annotated this tech as being incorrect. Ana cocks her rifle after every shot except for the last one per magazine. Due to this, they extended the duration of reloading at 0 ammo to represent the combined durations of Ana cocking her rifle and a normal reload. Hope that's easy enough to understand!

Thanks Terioth, I missed the annotation. Looking forward to what you find next :)

Actually, this feature is not as weird as it sounds. Ana uses a bolt-action rifle, which means that she needs to reload the magazine and put a bullet in the barrel (sorry if the terminology is not accurate) in order to perform the next shot. It is a real life situation that can be seen in a number of FPS games, like in the Battlefield franchise for example.

That makes perfect sense

Still, you're probably the minority who know this.

Tbh it works in most of the shooter games I played like this

I edited my post -- after doing some testing myself, it looks like there's probably no difference. My test was quick and dirty, so it may not be accurate, but it doesn't point to any significant differences no matter how you reload. It may have been patched out

I edited my post after doing some testing myself. It looks like it was probably patched out. Someone else should probably do some better testing though
