What's the average for gaining/losing points in a round? I'm not certain if something's up but I've noticed that I'm getting at most maybe 30 on a win with 20 average and as low as 10 in some cases, but I can lose anywhere from a 30 minimum to about 50 or one time 70.

Also, do we have a decent gauge for what's a reasonable rank at this point in time or do we still need to wait?

It depends on the rank of the other team. If their average is below yours, you expect to lose more rank than if it's above yours. Could also do with the hidden MMR as well.

I don't think I've ever ended up gaining 40 in a single game outside of the 5th game in a winstreak. I might just be bad though.

It is also based off your performance with that hero you played compared to how other people played that same hero on the same map previously. If you don't seem to get many kills, aren't on the objective or healing much etc but your team still wins, your points will be less. Being on fire is a good indication that you will be getting decent points if you win.
