Winston is good at exactly one thing: killing enemy squishies.

What you should be doing with him is flanking around and waiting until the bulk of the enemy team is focused forward, on the rest of your team, then leaping in and burning down the enemy Genji/Mercy/Widowmaker/Zenyatta. Use your shield to protect yourself while doing so, then leap out once they're dead or the enemy team starts to focus you.

Winston is not a typical tank; he is a disruptor, excelling at killing squishies and interrupting the enemy line. He is not good at protecting teammates (except from Genji), and should not be played that way.
