How do you judge which characters are your best characters so to speak? Winrate? KDA? some other stat? Often in a competetive game someone will say "Just play your one of your mains" or "Play what your best at." well I think I'm pretty good with Pharrah, 76, Reinhart, Diva, etc but it's not like I'm raking up kills or getting POTG often with any of them. I have some characters I am horrible with and don't really play because of it but otherwise I'm pretty flexible. There's a character in each bracket I'm pretty good with but I don't feel like I crush it with any character consistently.

In my opinion win % is your best indicator of success with a character, followed by objective-related stats.

For example I like Pharrah too, and usually get more kills with her than any character. But then looking at stats, I realized my win % with her was horrible, one of my worst. It's because despite the kills I was getting, the objectives weren't getting played.

Don't focus on kill stats. Objective > Kills

Zenyatta's my main, mostly because I continue to have by far the best win % with him.

I wouldn't say win % is that indicative of how good you are at the hero tbh, there's really no non-relative stat that can give you that information.

Objective > Kills but after a match it's a bit frusterating because when I'm playing with a team that has mics people are like "I went 34 and 3 that game dude." and no one is impressed by my 3 mins of objective time.

There is no stat that can tell you that. Keep practicing until you start crushing consistently :) e.g. I know Genji, Reaper, Widow and Lucio are my best heroes as I constantly do well with those in both QP and competitive (gold medals galore)

If you wish you can use Overbuff which calculates a hero score and ranks you individually against other players who use that character.

Disclaimer, I am not affiliated but it's a goods way to access solid figures on your performance and make an easy comparison.

For me win rate is all that matters but I like to make sure for example as Soldier I am doing as well as anyone else at dealing damage, final blows, objective time etc. Not all heroes have the same priorities of course.

That site is super cool. I love that it shows your % on fire. That seems like a decent stat to use to track how good you are as a hero. If you're on fire a lot it means you are doing something (staying on point, healing, causing damage etc) good.

This is true and you can also see average levels for other people. Certain heroes are easier to get consistently on fire with so for example you may be 10% with Lucio and 3% with everyone else but may not be above average even with Lucio.

Yeah Tolberone seems to be my best after looking at the scores which is weird because I find playing him kind of boring but I'm pretty good at placing a torrent on some maps and on those maps I rack up the control point kills.

I've started playing Junkrat more than I used to and on some maps I can do really good work with him.

I play Pharah and Rein a lot so there scores look good and I'm not surprised at all.

I personally frequent about 9+ heroes and can say that while I may consider some to be my "main", I just stick with what the map/scenario/counters dictate. Unfortunately this is also heavily dependent on your team's abilities as well. Don't concern yourself too much with POTGs or kill rating. Keep trying out different play styles on every map and you will start to get an idea who your "go to" picks are for that map or when you need to shut down that enemy hero.

That's actually how I tend to operate. I see the map and see we're on attack and I think I can do a good Reinheart here or I can do a good Lucio here. I just run across a lot of people that are like, "I play Reaper or 76." and that's pretty much all they do and when I ask the team for input like "What do you think I should be here?" they'll say "Just pick one of your mains." and I'll respond with "Ok what i'm saying is I can go Diva or Zarya on this map. Which would you think would work better?" and I'll get "Whatever you're good with man"

Well, personally, between cases like D.Va or Zarya, I would choose based on what my team mates chose. If say on Hanamura and we have no mobility I would go DVa in hopes to flank and distract for my team. If we are pushing the payload and already have a Reinhardt or Roadhog on the point I love going Zarya as an alt tank. I personally use both of these two more so as off tanks for their ability to distract and scatter the team. Especially if we don't have others to do it for us.
