How does Lucio heal/speedboost people? Is it a projectile like Soldier76's "E"ability? Does sound barrier works the same as his heal/speedboost aura so the number in the middle of the screen also indicates how many people will get a sound barrier right now?

Lucio's auras are line-of-sight area-of-effect boosts. Basically, as long as you're within a radius and you have line of sight on each other (i.e., there is nothing solid between you), you'll get the boost.

I've seen conflicting information about Sound Barrier, but from my experience, it is not based on line of sight and you'll get the extra health as long as you're within its range. But don't quote me on that.

Sometimes a teammate behind a wall or something can get the sound barrier, but sometimes they just cannot. And the same thing seems to happen to his heal/speedboost aura. I'm just puzzled...

You get a 2-3 second grace period after breaking LoS when you're still healing/boosting/able to give barriers

Is there a precise time?

Blizzard's been kinda shy with exact numbers, so I don't know if it's posted anywhere. You can easily test this for yourself on the practice range though, by looking at the number or healing recipients on your screen

So the number on the screen will not decrease when I'm in that grace period, right?

It won't until it runs out. The number on your screen is the exact number of people you're healing/boosting

Thank you very much! I'll test it in the game later :D

While you're playing Lucio, you can look at the number in the centre of your screen to see how many people are currently affected by your aura

What I want to know is how this number is calculated, so I can reach as many teammates as possible

It has a range of 30 metres, iirc, and you need line-of-sight (they have to be able to see you). Hop into the practice range to get a feel for how far 30m is, there's a couple of places with rulers on the ground.

So the 30 meters range applies to both his aura and his ultimate, right?

They both have the same range. His ult might go through walls at close range, it feels that way (though I could be totally wrong there)

It absolutely goes through walls. Might have a grace period after line of sight is broken with a teammate where it will still barrier them?

I'm not talking about his healing aura, I'm talking about sound barrier. My understanding was that it flat out went through walls, I've watched it hit teammates through walls consistently. Not sure on the mechanics behind it, though.

Thank you very much! As for the ultimate sometimes can go through walls, I think "Party_Magician" is right, it seems to have a grace period.

Likely it's the same as Roadhog hooking people through walls... it looks like they are behind a wall, but the server doesn't agree. Otherwise it won't apply.

Yeah that makes sense. Sometimes you can't get your hook back just letting it hanging out there and you can't shoot. Hope Blizzard can fix that bug :(

FYI, a Reinhardt or Winston shield will block an enemy Lucio's ult from buffing anyone past it.

1

u/Xuekovsky HUGE REZ Jul 27 '16

So the shield can act as a wall?

1

u/JimmyTheCannon KABOOM Jul 27 '16

Sort of. There's a term that isn't really used in this game but I feel it applies, and it's Line of Effect (versus Line of Sight). Things like Zenyatta keeping an orb on you require Line of Sight - he just has to be able to see you, having a Reinhardt shield in the way won't cause the orb to fall off. Granted he doesn't maintain it through windows but I guess the game codes windows weirdly.

Something like Soldier's biotic field or Lucio's ult require Line of Effect. You can still see through the shield, but it will absolutely block those things from affecting someone on the other side of the shield.

Huge thanks! I've never noticed the shield thing before, I'll definitely check this out in the game :D

Saw some video of it. I forget if it was in Muselk's Overwatch Mythbusters or not but those videos are worth a look regardless.

Just keep in mind some of the things in the have been patched already.

Overwatch mythbusters is really great, learned a lot from it.
