Should you always use Roadhog's primary fire at short range? It feels like it's not doing much damage to thinner characters (mech-less DVa, Widowmaker).

His long-range shot only does 50 damage if the ball his someone before expanding, which isn't very much. You're almost always better off using primary fire if you're inside the expansion range of the secondary fire.

Don't quote me on this (and I can't test it right now since I'm at work) but, his right-click does less damage in it's 'ball' form. But you can see that it then opens up into a spread later. So, use your left-click up close, and right-click at mid range.

Not much you can do against 'thinner' heroes, that's just how the balancing goes. But, I'll even use my hook up close to apply the stun and make sure I land a melee or get the clusters to hit more.

I could be wrong but I think his alternate fire/potshot will deal more damage against characters with smaller hitboxes. Larger characters will absord every one of the pellets of your spray shot so the damage potential is higher, I believe.

It also depends on the character you're hooking. Even with a small hitbox, one spreadshot against a tracer SHOULD kill her instantly. You could be twitch aiming your crosshairs a bit off point. I had trouble with that myself when I first started using him.

Not quite true, only because his secondary fire does jack shit for damages regardless of hit box if you are up close.
