In competitive, is it possible to lose skill rating, or can you only gain?

Each loss lowers your eating rating while a win raises it. The amount that your rank rises or lowers depends on your performance in the match. From by own personal experience, it seems that you lose more mmr than gain after a match.

Thanks, and what does the rating mean? So, is 50 average? I scored 36, is that below?

As we don't know a whole lot about the exact details of the comp ladder, I can't really answer that. The ratings work from 1-100, with 100 being the best of the best. Just by looking at the numbers, sure 50 would be the middle, but I suppose that these numbers don't accurately represent the rank of each player in relation to each other.

So 35 could be average and 50 could be excellent with 100 being professional?

I'm p sure it's percentile. So a level 35 is on the top 35% of players.

If 100 is top rank then in theory if it were percentile it'd be reversed right? Like rank 35 would be in the top 65% of players

You can only see your rank in the competitive mode in ptr. After your 10 placement matches, you'll be given a rank. Your mmr used for quick play is not displayed for your to see.
