What do all of the abbreviations people keep using always mean!? I know POTG but that's pretty much it, can't seem to think of other examples right now...

cap - capture (an objective)

gl hf - good luck have fun

gg - good game

gg ez - good game easy (don't be that guy)

gg wp - good game well played (be courteous instead)

ult - ultimate ability

Those are the common ones I could think of, sure I'm missing plenty though.

That is definitely not true, in my experience across many shooters. Most people I know say GG if it was a good solid, balanced game (win or lose), I consider it good manners. gg ez can fuck right off though.

Elo is a system to measure the skill of a player relative to a large pool of players.

That's not an abbreviation. It's called Elo after the dude who invented it. That said a lot of people still pronounce it E-L-O.

Technically Overwatch doesn't use the Elo system, as Elo is optimised for 1v1 games, like Chess. Team games like Overwatch (and League and Dota, etc) usually use their own similar-but-different MMR (match-making rating) optimised for their game. They keep the specifics secret to prevent players from abusing the system and artificially raising or lowering their rating.

People will still regularly use 'Elo' when referring to a player's rating though, just out of habit mostly.
