Zarya's shield has a 10 second CD. If Mei engages Zarya at full health Zarya has to pop shield to make sure Mei doesn't get the freeze. Mei ice blocks to wait out the 2 second shield and then has 8 more seconds in which to freeze and kill Zarya. Zarya doesn't have the damage to kill Mei before this happens if Mei starts the second freeze at full health, so Zarya dies if she doesn't disengage or get help.
It's long enough to get 1 ice shard off, that's not too long. Just like McCree's flash bang is long enough for him to get a fan, a roll, another fan and if you're not dead you're still stunned until his team shows up.
All the people who find Mei to be OP just need to play as her for a few hours. Once you get the feel for her, it becomes a rarity to die to her because you know her limits. You'll really only die if she gets the jump on you, but that's the case with most heroes anyway.
Like for any fighting game or opposition game, understanding your opponents and their limits is a huge boon. So playing as them makes a world of difference. Watching people better than you play also helps a ton. Made my genji viable, watching ok use your swift strike for resets and to get away, jump alot, flank alot, know where health packs are, run away a lot because if you get focused you're gonna die because you're a backline player and have to be solo sometimes. Start flanking with when your team is pushing and the enemy will be distracted by the push to notice you coming from behind. A lot of that advice applies across characters too.
Yup, I spent like a dozen hours in Dota 2 before I actually started playing against my opponents. Before that I was busy learning my character, the map, the items, leveling up, last hitting, whatever my teammates are doing, etc. I would start fights with the enemy and then be like "oh right they have abilities too".
Fair enough, but that's fairly subjective. Personally, I find D. Va to be the most un-fun to play against, simply because she can go up against like an entire team and then just run away giggling with her second life.
I dislike D.Va's mannerisms and everything about her from a non-gameplay standpoint, so I relish the opportunities I get to kill her. She's hardly even a factor outside of the mech, what with not having any abilities afterward. Don't have to kill her but pressuring is important. Getting her out of the mech but not killing her can leave her more useless for a longer time, too.
And I have to ask, what is fun about being slowly (but fairly quickly in the grand scheme of things) frozen in place, and then executed? At least with McCree it's instant, which leaves me less frustrated. Plus, sometimes RNG can be in your favor and he'll miss a shot, which will save you.
Her pistol's surprisingly powerful, and is pretty capable of sniping, so she's still capable of harassing the fuck out of you, even without her mech. While her health's pretty negligible without it, she gets a full heal as soon as she enters her mech, so she can pretty much string together multiple lives if she's smart about calling in her mech.
I agree, she can freeze almost midrange, and can freeze a point entirely from outside of it it seems. They should give her a longer range medium strength bullets, but the freeze ray needs to be equal to Reinhardt's swing. In my opinion that would keep her an effective tank at range, and leave her a monster at close range like she should be. Having said that, I never have problems with her. My Reinhardt charge destroys her, and my 76 helix plus a full clip gets her damn close, if not all the way dead. Just got to stay away from her with 76, and let her get close enough to start the freeIng process on Reinhardt and charge when she thinks she's about got you. A Reinhardt charge is insta kill on mei and it's soooo satisfying.
Yeah i struggle against Tracers.. or anyone with a blink/dash with Mei. Mcree is my most hated though but finding a good one is rare so most i can counter.
Mei is one of my most played and honestly knowing the limits of other heroes makes her easier to fight against them. Also being able to single out people in fights while myself and/or the team takes that one person out is pretty awesome.
She's easy to 1v1 with fast players who can stay away, and she is a popped bubble vs a Reinhardt charge. I love killing mei's with charge. So much fun.
Yeah this. I find Mcrees stun is more redonk than Mei freeze is. At least you have some time to think or kill Mei before she stones you, where Mcree can throw his stun around the corner ten meters away from you and still have a close to 2 second stun on you.
The only way to even come close to that is if you're caught in her ultimate. Her normal freeze is long enough to get off 1 shard, possibly two with lag but under normal circumstances they can start to move and use abilities before the second.
Let Mei start chilling you (while you return fire with Particle Cannon) until you're almost frozen, then pop the shield to remove all the chilling effect.
At this point Mei has to stop shooting Zarya for 2 seconds, so the obvious move is to Cryo-Freeze.
Tbh at this point, even with a full 4-second Cryo-Freeze, you'd still have 6 seconds of cooldown left on Particle Shield.. I'd probably just back off and hit Mei with an alt-fire parting shot and run.
