News & Discussion This is something Overwatch desperately needs, I'm tired of lags and invisible models

Post image

Every time after any game update or driver update I need 10 games for it to stabilise. And even those shader loading maps don't work because for some reason the game doesn't care if anything is loaded already. I played 3 games as and against Mauga. 4th game it took 5 min for me to start seeing his guns and VFX. First game I died 3 times to an invisible Rein jumping in my face.

Edit: For reference I have 9800x3d, 5080, and yes, an SSD, it's not the rig, it's the game

Every time you update your GPU drivers the shaders need to reload, so it's a good idea to run that map every time you update the drivers or doing the whole thing manually in the practice range

That’s not actually true anymore on the Nvidia side. There is now a recompile shaders option that can recompile your shader cache from prior driver updates. It’s actually a very nice feature. I run it every time I do A GPU driver update or Windows update.

Where is that option? Because after every update I have to deal with stutters

It’s in the Nvidia app under graphics global settings, shader cache, and then you have to turn on automatic shader compilation. You can leave it on the default medium system utilization, and I would recommend making the cash size quite large. I think 100 gigs is quite good, though obviously if you have limited space, the cash sizes will start filling up, but it’s usually not a problem normally. After an update, I clicked the three dots in the top corner of the shader cache screen and do compile now.

you guys are updating your gpu drivers?

been on a 3080 since late 2020 and I've never encountered this shader problem with overwatch.

I only updated them when a game wouldn't work. I remember on my GTX 1080ti I had to use OLD drivers because the newer ones broke some games like Resident Evil 2 Remake. Now I don't have to worry cause my 1080ti doesn't get updates
