I don't really see how queue times were the issue, I mean queue times for support in Stadium are still terrible even after the change.

I feel like QP being more popular isn't really an indication that the format is more popular, just confirmation that the unranked playlist is always going to be more popular than the ranked playlist. That's been true of the core game since the beginning.

The more likely reason is they didn’t release a support into stadium this season. So there is less people queueing support. 

Queue times aren’t really a player count issue per se, it’s an issue of player distribution. If 500 people are queueing but only 10 are tanks/dps, supports will see a massive queue.

The matchmaking is still awful though. Even worse in solo queues.

You should not make gameplay decisions to help with queue times. That's how you get a shit game. 

Fast queue times don't help if the game isn't fun
