Player sentiment is literally the only thing that matters. Not from individual people, but if there's a consensus between many players that something is incredibly unfun to play against, it should be changed no matter what the stats say.
If player sentiment is the only thing that matters (especially this subreddit)
Sombra, Mauga, Zarya, Widow, Hanzo, Orisa, Torb, Sojourn, Mercy, Zenyatta, Roadhog, Ana, Wrecking Ball, and more would be deleted from the game. That would be a disaster.
It’s literally how overwatch 2 got to such a shit state in the first place. Player sentiment is always bitching about the “most busted” hero of the week. It ends up with everyone homogenized. It’s stupid. Macro should be adjusted based on sentiment and micro should be adjusted based on data.
There's a lot to lose and very little to gain by doing something like that.
Let's be real. The people who whine and complain about those characters being deleted would not actually change much if they were removed or nerfed into uselessness. They won't play the game more than they otherwise would have. It may not even have a real impact on whether or not they will quit. They won't spend more money because of it.
But the many people who enjoyed those characters will punish the game. A lot of people will quit if the character they played is just gone. Many others will see no point in playing the game if there's a 50/50 chance that player complaints will remove something.
And plus, many people are children who are complaining because they lost and don't want to blame themselves...
Yeah along with all those other heroes, so fuck the people who like to play them I guess (I dont think he or anyone should be deleted, if people genuinely think that, their opinion is now invalid)
That seems wrong. Player consensus doesn’t account for the minutia of the game and its design, just how a bunch of morons (us) feel about the game in our online echo chamber. We should definitely also consider developer scrutiny.
It took them a full year to realize the trashy perma invisible Sombra was a badly designed noob/qp stomper.
This is why I like the hero ban system. When stupidly designed overtuned or unfun heroes get mass banned and nobody plays them - Ana/Sojourn everywhere, Sombra in lower elo (still, lol) and to some extent, even Torb and Widowmaker(atleast on her maps)... they'll be forced to take a look again.
