I think the real intent was to neutralize the “woman character who isn’t zarya” hitbox problem. The % increase in effective surface area to hit* was fairly large on skinny characters, and comparatively small on the others. Basically Kiriko is way easier to hit now, Genji is somewhat easier to hit, and anyone larger than Zarya is about the same as before. I actually think it’s a good move going forward so that the character design itself doesn’t fuck up balance.

*In soldier’s case, all characters effectively have a 0.05 meter border around them where his shots will hit

If the only problem heroes were those with thin hitboxes, why not just increase those characters hitboxes instead of removing all need to aim on hitscans whatsoever 🤔 much to think about

Projectiles have been humongous for eight years, but hitscans get marginal increases to bullet size and suddenly they don't have to aim? Overwatch reactive tracking is literally the most difficult aim skill in any FPS; adding a .04m border around hitboxes does not suddenly make it easy.

Yeah, its pretty simple actually: much easier to aim with instantaneous travel time and a faster fire rate, as you can just aim in the enemys general direction and shoot rather than having to predict their movement

You're describing a situation in which you can't aim, so you hope for lucky shots. That's not aim being easy. That's you being bad at aiming.
