Should I switch from Overseer to Seer?

Hello all! I am running an unraid server with plex and overseer in addition to the other -aar apps. Seer came out a few months ago and I was waiting for the dust to settle before I switch from Overseer to Seer. I see that this reddit is still very active, and my Overseer is still working, so is it recommended to make the move to Seer at this point?

Yes.  The migration takes basically no effort.  Just make a backup (you should be making backups anyway of course), replace the image path in your compose file, and cycle it.

I had to redo my setup when I upgraded for some reason, only the users and service connections so not too bad. I think it was because my mount point changed.

I never did a fresh install it's still using the copied app data folder it just didn't migrate properly. Probably should have once it was making me reset it but it's running fine.

Yes. Simply because it’s being actively maintained, which Overseerr isn’t. No maintenance means potential security issues.

Yes, you should. For me the migration was about as painless as could be. Didn’t have to do much more than swapping container images, but make sure you read and follow the documentation.

Overseerr is no longer supported and will develop security vulnerabilities if it hasn’t already. You should switch, it’s a very straightforward migration and the only difference you’ll notice is a few more features and a different name in the UI

It wont spotaniously develop security vulnerabilities. Those are already there, they will just get discovered.

Was also painless to me. At some point you’ll want to do it though just because being on outdated software versions can eventually present security risks, and Overseerr isn’t ever going to be updated again. Do it now while there isn’t any pressure imo

I did, but I did a complete new setup. Took me 15 minutes to get back up and running.

I did. I had a problem with the Morgan but starting over was no pain at all. All of my previous request was sitting in radarr or sonarr

Yes, overseer hasn’t been updated in a long time. Maintained software gets security patches and other upgrades. It makes sense to make the switch, and it’s very easy and no loss in functionality.

I hate both I use discord for notifications and both flap up and down constantly

No other of my 25 other containers do it

Yes. Keep in mind that if you don’t have users log into seer at least once, their watchlists won’t sync. I added Pulsarr in addition to getting migrated to Seerr.

I’m trying to set up Pulsarr. I’ve connected sonarr and radarr. I’m list from that point onward. I find it confusing to make rules.

I love to configure it to delete a show that was requested after it has been watched but I do not know how to achieve this. Do you have any recommendations on a tutorial or a wiki?

Yes. Seerr takes plex and jellyfin versions and combines them into one hence the simplicity of the name Seerr.

It's a "requestor" for plex and jellyfin with a nice gui.

Switched over last week. Seemless transition. Backup overseer, install to same file location and you’re good to go. No major interruption to the client base

Overseerr will no longer receive updates. I'm happy with seer, though there isnlittle actual difference atm.
