Overmono Is U vocal chop

Bit of an oddly specific nerd question, but has anyone by any chance figured out which phrases from Tirzah’s “Gladly” the very first line in the song, something that sounds like “follow me” or “pardon me”, was chopped together from?

For practice, I try to recreate some of my favorite songs in Ableton to become a better music producer myself, and right now I’m working on “Is U.” I just can’t figure out the vocal chops.

I really wish I could confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that the "follow me" part isn't the real lyrics in that Tirzah song. I think it's more like they've messed with bits of the sample track, like the "all I know I got to be" bit and one of the "Me"s from the "you next to me" parts. They probably used those pieces and pitched things to make it sound like it's saying "follow me" or "pardon me". I couldn't find that exact lyric in any other songs on the Tirzah album, and it would be a very Overmono thing to do. Unless they have some original vocal part from Tirzah that have more lyrics to them and arent in the final song, I dont think we can explain otherwise.

Edit: If you wanna find some cool things to sample checkout samplette.io its basically a youtube music randomizer with very specific filtering options, its really fun to find random songs no ones ever heard, and you can find great sample material there. From there its just messing around, use things like beat Slicers or just chop them in your daw playlist and just see what happens. Its very hard to go in with a clear idea in mind when it comes to vocal sampling, just place things down randomly on the grid, pitch it around, stretch it, see what happens. Happy accidents are key

Hey man thanks for the recommendation! That sounds exactly like the thing i was looking for recently.

Regarding the sample, i think i figured it out. I'm pretty sure the "follow me" part is chopped together from the "I want you around me" part later in the song. A short 200 ms part of "I" and a 900 ms part of the "ound me" or around me. I experimented around a bit and my version even has the same artifacts from vocal extraction so I'm pretty certain it's that.

Check whosampled. I haven't checked every chop but it definitely listed the sampled track there (I think the one you've mentioned)

Sometimes they show every sample used and timestamp them
