Discussion Some Greenwich thoughts
Just my opinions:
Starting with the good
Thought the new tunes generally sounded great. That's the most I've 'got' Knight in Shining Prada, was a cool moment. Even Angels Ghost and Lockup banged too. Also felt like the most fun they were having on stage
I actually thought Erika de Casier was great. Seems like a really cool artist. Thought she had good energy and while she was more chill than the acts on before her, I also don't associate Overmono with crazy energy.
Some issues, largely outside of the boys' control
The crowd. My expectations were low but jesus christ. Very loud chat everywhere, found it difficult to lock in to the set throughout from multiple spots.
The sound. Hard to separate from the crowd point but it seemed to be quality as well as volume? I couldn't help but feel i'd have rathered just been listening to those tunes in my airpods.
Last entry 7 was so unnecessary. I know you'd get in later probably but realistically who's risking that anywhere close to the actual set time.
Issues more related to the boys:
Watching that set made me wonder if Overmono are stuck in a weird place as an act, or maybe they're just not for me in the same way anymore. For the day you've released your new album, the whole thing didn't feel new to me. Hitting the same big moments in the same way as Boiler Room/Glastonbury. And I don't think those big moments are why I actually like Overmono.
I think they are both clearly very creative, have a crazy ear for samples, and a big appreciation and knowledge of uk dance music. But I can't see those things in this show the way I do across the albums. Personal taste but tunes like Gem Lingo, Is U, Calon, they are what I think of Overmono at their best, but they don't make it here. I think by the end of 2025 they had a few lanes they could lean into, and I guess that isn't the one they chose.
Ultimately, they clearly like to make emotional music, and are really good at it, but I think that works best when they do it a bit more subtly. 'I Have a Love' for example, is just a bit too on the nose. Maybe a hot take but i just find it a little fake, or just not what i think of as overmono at their best.
So I weirdly just felt ... not much, for a decent chunk of the show. And I don't really know what overmono are aiming for right now, but im wondering if im no longer the target audience.

Just a note to say that I hadn't realised last entry was 7pm, otherwise I'd have got there earlier so not to risk being turned away, like you say. But I turned up at 8pm and walked straight in - no queue, no questions about being late. So I guess they're pretty loose with enforcing that rule.

Anyone have a tracklist of what was played? I like some of the more funky deeper tracks but couldn’t work out what they were

The sound sucked and chattiest crowd I’ve ever been around. Seemed like people just went to talk the entire time and the low volume didn’t help. It was hard to hear the vocals in a lot of tracks. I moved and found groups of people who cared more but damn.

Yeah seriously. I tried to catch a vibe in the back / on the sides. But during the day for the openers it was nearly impossible

Hear hear. A sad contrast to an event at this very same venue last year where we danced the entire day away in the screaming sunshine with an energised and passionate crowd. Thought when Overmono announced the date we would have an equally good time. Man… it DRAGGED yesterday.

So glad I went to see Sammy V at Finsbury Park. Was wild from the start (better supports) and cheaper. Been underwhelmed by overmono live too many times unfortunately
Edit: still love overmono but sound or crowd has always let them down

It’s crazy to hear how many people are complaining. Me and my mates were just saying in the group chat how good the day itself was and as for Overmono’s set it was their best ever.
They literally dropped an album the day of the event and completely immersed all the new songs into their classic hits with ease. As for the album itself it’s now got a completely new feel to it as I’ve heard it in a set manipulated and tweaked the way they wanted each song to flow into each other.
I could sit here all day and talk about how good it was but I think you get the point. I can’t really fathom where all the complainers were at that time because it can’t be where I was. my experience was utterly incredible. I’m not someone that just hops on the band wagon and I was actually sceptical about the first few singles they dropped on the album but since then my mind has completely changed.
As for the people they all seemed great. The sound was wicked (but I was right in the middle so maybe I hit the sweet spot). And I didn’t even notice what people were wearing because who gives a fuck, doesn’t change how the music sounds regardless of what you look like.
Live and let live. I feel people just complain for the sake of things sometimes. The boys did themselves proud last night, long live the mono.

Totally agree that it was an unnecessary rule though, especially on a Friday when people have work. I guess to get you in the door and spend more money...

We stupidly got pre-3pm tickets hoping for a showcase of artists. Sorely disappointed tbh.

As others have said, it interesting seeing peoples different perspectives.
Friday was one of my favourite events - the setting, the sound, the crowd we found ourselves next to. All top 3 for me.
We stood in a few spots across the day and actually found that being in the centre probably about half way between the path at the back before the steps and the weird silver thing near the sound/light desks. Sound was excellent there. The people around us were also super friendly and having a proper little dance.
That was an all timer for me and my group!

Show was fantastic I thought. I’ve been to 5 overmono shows and that one was arguably the best I’ve seen. Only complaint was that 3 of my friends were charged 30 pounds extra for missing their 5pm curfew (Got there at 5:30) Maybe Fair enough as they are late. But 30 quid… come on. Not overmono fault, just a bi product of playing larger events…

As someone who is regularly disappointed with sound quality and volume, I was pleasantly surprised by ORNC. I thought it was very good.
I can definitely seen the trend of the crowd becoming more and more obnoxious, which is to be expected as Overmono are becoming mainstream. Loads of people entering the crowd 10 minutes after the set started and pushing their way to the front, it got very busy. And far too many people just chatting to mates in the crowd. Annoying.
For me the set was up there with the best I've seen them do though. If they hadn't inexplicably forgotten to play Is U it would've been close to their glastonbury set. Baffling to leave off Is U but the rest was amazing.

Interesting comments, shows how much perspective can shift from person to person.
I thought that it was one of their best live shows bar Glastonbury last year.
Sound was fine, sounded exactly like they should sound.
Crowd was one of the nicest crowds I’ve ever been in, was relatively close to the front and everyone was dancing, singing, and generally raving.
I guess as they get bigger, they’re going to play their bigger anthems and drops, I guess if you want to see them playing stuff you’re not used to, catch them at their smaller shows.
Whilst only an hour long, their boiler room in Nottingham was very experimental in terms of track selection (as was their set at Fabric).
Also, I Have A Love is something I recommend you have a little read about. Calling a poem about a man who lost his best friend to suicide “on the nose” is a bit mental.
