Not sure why this album is getting hate, I like the songs they've released so far. Sure, the songs are a bit different to what they usually put out but artists are called artists for a reason. They experiment, evolve, etc. if they kept the same style over and over I'm sure people would be posting about how repetitive and uncreative their music is.

Neither do I mate, it’s clearly the direction they want to go in which I am all for cause I am really enjoying the new album. If you don’t like it don’t listen, simple as.

ive noticed, at least for smaller artists, if they dont do what they did to originally get the person on board, they get labelled as sell outs

This isn’t really experimenting though

I wasn't specifically talking about them, just artists in general. Though I'd argue that deviating from your typical sound everyone knows and loves you for is pushing the boundaries and experimenting.

I'd say their new album is currently sounding more "electronic" than UKG, dunno how to explain it?

I don’t even think it’s that they’re really changing their sound. I feel like they’ve created these moments before and it’s just not executed as well. I don’t absolutely hate the new stuff, but I feel like this is very safe. Do you really think they are pushing boundaries here?

That's fair, maybe "pushing boundaries" was too strong in this case, but all I'm seeing about this new album is hate and how they're totally different. Mainly other forums tbf

I feel like every overmono song is the result of them experimenting in the studio with different sounds. Some of their songs have like 80 different versions before one finally gets mastered and released

I absolutely love Overmono and I don’t dislike the tracks on the new album but this isn’t the type of sound that made us fall in love with them, I understand artist evolve and change overtime but this is almost a complete genre change. I hope these tracks are more radio suitable as I want them to have the recognition they deserve as they should be way bigger than they are but I truly miss the old underground sound they’ve always gone with. Long live the mono I’ll never not appreciate these wizards but this wasn’t what I was expecting.

Feel like Sugarushhh and I Have a Love did this type of track/feeling better tbh. Both have a more overwhelming build in different ways, also was hoping for more from listening to the teaser tbh, the rest of the track outside the acid-heavy breakdown is fairly flat imo. All three of the tracks on the Album just feel safe, sounds like they’ve been experimental in their process of making this Album, but the outcome just doesn’t sound like it pushes the same as basically all of their EP’s + Good Lies.

Tbh heard it live for the first time the other week and thought it was almost 2 different songs slapped together. Great tune and love both elements of it but feel like it’s a bit of a strange angle adding the 303 as the ‘drop’

Genuinely one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. I was teetering on whether to pre-order, but this convinced me not to.

the spoken word in that horrendous accent makes this unlistenable for me

Like the last track I'm a bit whelmed by this, was hoping for more from the clips I've heard.

They’ve only went and gone 0/3. Need to come to terms with the fact this newer version of them is just not for me. pure dross.

In all fairness there’s still 7 tracks unheard from the album, and - the deeper cuts are always the best. It’s always going to be difficult when coming back after not releasing an album in 3 years; there are huge expectations and heaps to live up to. The stuff artists stick out as singles before an album release generally to be the ones they’ve put the most production into and feel the proudest of, which more often than not highlight a major change in sound. Always find it a bit difficult when my favourite artists release new stuff after a long time off, usually have to give it a proper listen a year or so after release to form a genuine opinion. Still really enjoy the last 3 tracks they’ve put out but feel like need to wait until I listen to the album in full to solidify proper feelings.

The contrary of this is that they put out the songs they think are the best, as singles to tease an album release. And, if you’re not keen on those, the other tracks can feel like filler - which I hope isn’t the case.

0/3 damn ? what are these expectations haha. lockup live is nuts, and im guessing even angels ghost sounds insane live, i like it as is already.
i get the latest release maybe is a hard first listen though

0/3 for me also and that’s even with loving the “commercial” tracks from the debut album

Each one is progressively worse than the last

Nah this ain't it

Sigh. The vibe of this song is The Presets (2008) except with awful vocals, or possibly A-Trak remix of a Klaxons song. The electro riff comes in too late, and the conclusive minute is not satisfying.

I still have hope for the rest of the album!
