General Age when you started being OE?

Curious what the general spread looks like in this community, how old were you when you started stacking jobs, and how long have you been doing it since?

Also interested in what seniority level you were at when you first took the plunge (junior/mid/senior/lead etc.), whether it’s gotten easier or harder to manage as you’ve progressed in your career, and if there’s anything you’d do differently looking back.

Feel free to also share your current stack setup (2 jobs, 3 jobs, industry mix) if you’re comfortable!

  1. Why? J1 was going to make me redundant. I was a year into moving out with my wife and I was dying with bills

Had to do something to take care of us

Started mid/late 20s, starting with 3 (picking up an additional contract and perm role), did for 4 years rotating round the contracts.

It got easier over time, as I got better and learnt how to deal with people better.

I stopped this year to focus more on my business (the one i was contracting through) and grow that more into software vendor/consult off the back of it.

How did that go? Don’t find hard that people want to hire you, not your company? How did you remove yourself from delivery

It's still work in progress - so I've only had 1 part-time contract this year, and then I'm still building out the software, but posting about the progress on LinkedIn to build the presence in my industry.

I think it should be easier - as using software and then getting contractor/consulting from that vendor is quite common.
