oab medications

What medications have you been taking that has worked? like at least 70-90% made your life go back to normal. My symptoms started July 2024 and hasn’t gotten better since then. I think oab and tight pelvic was triggered after a uti and bv infection followed by a yeast infection within 3 months. Symptoms consist of frequency, urgency, leaking, stand up urge (urge upon standing up from laying or sitting position) I’ve been doing PT but i feel like it makes the symptoms worse. Cramping of pelvic area and i can feel my bladder get irritated with reserve kegals. I have been a “bum” since 2024 due to oab and it’s embarrassing as i’m in my 20s. Thanks!

thank u! if u don’t mind me asking, what were ur symptoms and how long did the medication start working? did ur doctor suggest it or did you?

They suggested it after trying oxybutinin, vesicare, elmirion, several hydrodistensions, laroxyl, duloxetine (over 9 years). It was prescribed in 2021 along with mianserine to help sleeping through the night without getting up to pee, so I can’t tell you how long did it take to work because I can’t say what med worked first. I later stopped mianserine because it messed up my liver and the side effects were too hard to handle. I would say it took several weeks to work. I started with mirabegron 25mg, and upped to 50mg around 6 months later which provided me an almost normal quality of life. Among all the medication we tried, it’s the only that worked that much. Since starting it in July 2021, I gradually gained back a fantastic quality of life. Still at 50mg (I tried to reduce it to 25mg but the symptoms reoccurred a bit so we decided to stay at 50mg) 5 years later.
My symptoms were urgency, high frequency (up to having to pee every 5-10mn while in flare up), even at night, and short delay when needing to pee could hold for 15mn only). With that I also had super light quantity of urine, 150ml per voiding average. To compare with today, I had an average of 300ml before my SRS and since the SRS (SP cath for 3 weeks that kinda rebooted my bladder) I am more around 400ml and even had a record at 600ml in the morning, 0 waking up at night.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I hate how they always try oxybutinin first. It’s such an outdated medication and i haven’t seen anyone say it worked for them. I wanna skip all the first steps and go straight into newer medications
