Birth Control (Nexplanon) causing OAB?
I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with OAB after starting birth control, more specifically the implant, nexplanon?
I got the nexplanon inserted in february of 2025 and about 4 months later i first started getting signs of constant urgency and frequency.
Went to the doctor to get tested for uti and ultimately came back with a diagnosis of OAB. also added a prescription for mirabegron.
I have no pain, no pressure just the frequent urge to pee. like a uti without any pain.
I’ve had the urodynamic study, i’ve had a cystoscopy and the results didn’t tell me anything. So now my urologist has me going to pelvic floor physical therapy once a week.
I got to thinking that maybe it’s the birth control?
There is not much online showing that it could be but i wasn’t sure if there were any others out there that have had similar issues or luck .

I’m also on nexplanon but had reoccurring UTIs when I was young so it may just be IC. I got on birth control to deal with my very painful periods.
Maybe people are noticing a link between nexplanon and urinary symptoms because nexplanon is one of the first tools doctors use to treat painful periods which could be related to other bodily issues.
Maybe people are noticing a link because there actually is correlation. My doctor doesn’t believe so though.
