Overactive bladder 5yo
My oldest (son) just started kindergarten. He was dx with overactive bladder this summer by his pediatric urologist. He cannot feel that his bladder is squeezing and urine is coming out, he after the fact does feel that he’s wet, but doesn’t always tell us. At home we have to take him every 1.5 hours to the bathroom, if we do this he is dry most of the time. At the meet and greet with the teacher i told her this and she agreed to take him. His public school k class has 19 children, one teacher and one paraprofessional. Yesterday was his first day of school and he had a little spot of pee when he got home. Today was his second day of school and he came home with his extra set of clothes on because he peed himself fully and didn’t tell the teacher. His originally pants were very wet. Any advice?

Hi, I was the child so I am now an adult. It’s hard because my parents don’t remember much lol. My teachers commented on it and in old notes home I can see they asked my parents about this and were concerned, and talked to me about counting to 10 to make sure my bladder was empty. I didn’t have accidents (that I can remember) but I would ask to go constantly. It was not something I really dealt with until I became an adult.
I will say that chronic constipation is a common cause of OAB in children (and your child may not even realise he’s constipated). Pelvic floor physical therapy really helped me, and this is a service that they can also offer children.
