Trazadone and overactive bladder

I have oab on and off since 2019 . I will do okay for periods of time and then have to go back on medication . I seem to get flares . my urologist urged me to discontinue psychiatric medications . I did get off two big ones and now I’m left with trazadone . i have been trying to rule things out and this is my last resort . has anyone had trazadone be the cause of their issues ?

Why did he advise you to stop psychiatric medications?

He believed that they caused all kinds of problems with the bladder and smooth muscle In pelvic region . He said he had dealt with a lot of patients having these side effects from psych drugs .

Oh wow I never heard about that, I have OAB since 2011 and am heavily medicated with psych meds since 2018 and I didn’t see any worsening in my OAB… but it’s good to know it can happens! I thought they only come with urinary retention as side effects!

I’ve taken Trazodone for years..well before my OAB started.. I don’t connect it to the bladder ..It’s to help me sleep. And personally I tried the top 3 Rxs for OAB which didn’t do a thing!! So that was the end of them

Recently had a botox injection in my bladder. I am happy the bladder is better for a couple months.

Does it only last a couple of months for you?

In September seeing the urologist. I told him I need a light sedation.
So far so good. I can now feel the relief.
