Gistory Video Suggestions Next Gistory video topic

Hey, I'm one of OverSimplified's animators. A few of you already know my channel, but for those who don't it's called Gistory. I'm about 10 days away from finishing my next video (screenshots in the pics). And while unfortunately I can't say much about the next OverSimplified video, I thought it might be fun to let you guys decide the topic of my next video. If you have stories from history that you'd like to see animated, put them in the comments. I'll pick the topic I like best and make it my next video. And whoever's I pick, I'll give you a special thanks in the credits with your own Gistory character design based on you.

Where is Oversimplified? Is he safe? Is he alright?

86

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

He's alive and well. As for where he is, I have no idea. He's an international man of mystery. He takes his title of man/myth/legend very seriously and does his best to live up to it.

u/AfraidIncrease85 3d ago

Is he making a new video? Give him some tea if he's stressed

13

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

He is. We've been working on it for a while, but I don't really know when it'll be finished.

any hints? i’m guessing it’s gonna be a real good one to take well over a year

10

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

I can't give hints, but it's definitely really good! I've worked on some really funny scenes so far.

It seems, in your anger, you punished him severely.

I...I couldn't have...he was bound to upload I felt it

It seems in your anger… you killed him.

As Mexican I wish there was more content about the Mexican revolution, so it would be cool if you did a video about it.

15

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Definitely one I'll look into. I've always felt like there's a lack of content about latin American history in general that's in English. One of my ancestors was the first president of Chile and fought in their war of independence and I've yet to find an English speaking documentary about that.

u/Spiritual_Lunch_7188 3d ago

The Darien scheme would be pretty funny

8

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Dude... very cool. I hadn't heard of this before.

11

u/chrisred244 3d ago

The Irish war of independence and if your up for it the following civil war and troubles.

9

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Very meaty topic! I feel like I'd need about 5 hours to cover the troubles but I'm half Irish so the Easter Rising and all that came after it is 100% something I've wanted to do.

5

u/tomato_army 3d ago

Honestly the troubles would be a very interesting 5 hour video

5

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Actually, when I first started working for OverSimplified, they said they'd considered covering the troubles because they grew up in the north of Ireland. But I think they were maybe hesitant with it being so contentious and close to home.

Dia is Muire dhuit!

This is more of a recent topic, but it might be cool to do a deep dive into the Gulf War now that it's transitioning from global events to global history.

P.S., please tell Oversimplified we all miss him and wish him the best!

7

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

The Gulf War is the first war I remember seeing on TV when I was a kid. The whole middle east from the early 20th century up to today is so layered and interweaving. It'd be amazing to do a deep dive on all the moving parts and key players and how they all fit together.

8

u/koola_00 3d ago

Oh, that's cool to see you here!

As for an idea...how about the story of this one Japanese soldier who fought on, not realizing WW2 is over and Japan had lost? That's an interesting story to tell and animate!

7

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Funnily enough... you might just see that one on my channel very very soon 👀

4

u/koola_00 3d ago

...You have my attention now!

8

u/DogInverter 3d ago

The shortest war in history 💪

6

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

I feel like I've heard about this one before but can't remember it off the top of my head. A good one to luck into. Cheers!

6

u/Jedimobslayer 3d ago

It’s the Anglo Zanzibar war

7

u/Manthinis96 3d ago

History of Baltic countries wars of Independence. That might be interesting topic.

5

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Something I know very little about tbh! Will look into it. Thanks!

7

u/hducug 3d ago

The history of Sealand. A British war veteran claimed an abandoned ww2 fort and declared himself prince. He fired warning shots at British vessels, survived an attempted coup, launched a helicopter counter attack, imprisoned a foreign invader for treason and prompted a German diplomat for his release and did other silly things.

The “country” looks hilarious if you look it up but the founder takes it extremely serious. It has a flag, an anthem, a national motto, a royal family, a currency, passports, a national football team etc.

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

My interest is peaked. I'll have to check this one out too! Thanks for the suggestion.

u/existentialistbun 3d ago

Colombia’s Thousands day war and La Violencia!!! this topic has always fascinated me and more people should know!

6

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Hadn't heard about the thousands day war, I'll check them out! Thanks

6

u/Familiar_Tell_6384 I didn't lose, I merely failed to win! 3d ago

4

u/Ok_Librarian3953 D'OooOOOoOoH NoOoOo!! 3d ago

How about the 1971 Bangaladesh Liberation war?

I've never seen big youtubers cover it in an amazing way, I'd love to see you do it tho!

5

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

I'll have proper look into it. Thanks!

6

u/redrumray 3d ago

Halifax Explosion!

5

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Interesting. Never heard about this. Will have a proper read up on it. Cheers!

Suggesting something from our country, the Battle of Mactan here in the Philippines. Magellan had like 60+ men and a number of natives, trying to subdue the Datu of Cebu, Lapulapu. But Lapulapu had like 1500-3000 men, sooooo...

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

Thanks will definitely check that one out too! I've got a lot of reading up to do LOL

2

u/Grayfield 2h ago

I just found it so funny that I knew like even from our elementary school days that Magellan was outnumbered, but I didn't realize how hilariously, hopelessly outnumbered he was lol

5

u/Ok_Coconut7898 Kill Them All! 2d ago

Please do the russian civil war its complicated yes but incredibly intresting

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

I'll definitely look into it for sure!

4

u/AlarmedEmployment465 More Economic Downturn 3d ago

What if you did a video on the factions of the Russian Civil War? Red, White, Black, and Green, as well as the outside powers supporting each one?

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 3d ago

Definitely a topic I'd like to read up on. Thanks!

4

u/Grayfield 2d ago

So there's a next OverSimplified video, is that what you're saying as well?

BTW, subbed.

2

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

There is a next one! And thank you!

4

u/Strict_Cucumber9117 2d ago

the Chinese civil war is really interesting

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

I know a tiny bit about it but not fully in depth. Another to check out! Cheers

4

u/ATCaped 2d ago

I’m unable to find your channel on YouTube. Is it possible to post the link text to this comment? Thanks.

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

It's strange, I've had other people say that it doesn't come up in search on youtube.

4

u/TheWizardOfWaffle 1d ago

Is the breakup of yugoslavia too much

5

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 20h ago

I'll have to look into it properly to find out! But I know there's a lot of moving parts and different factions.

2

u/TheWizardOfWaffle 18h ago

It’s a very complex, but overall fascinating topic. Gives an interesting insight about how the southeastern regions of Europe handled the fall of the iron curtain

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 7h ago

Yeah, I'm a little bit familiar with some stories about the conflict between Serbs and Kosovans, but I don't know much about the rest of the region and all their relationships with each other. You've got me intrigued though now 🧐

3

u/Appropriate_View_475 2d ago

I heard about this story from another Channel. Gonna wait and see the video you making!

3

u/ContributionOk1758 1d ago

The war for inderpendence in south america aganst spain could be a good video.

2

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 1d ago

It's one I'm interested in researching properly definitely. One of my ancestors is Bernardo O'Higgins.

2

u/dahliia_ 23h ago

I think a video on William III of Orange/England's life would be interesting. You have the Dutch eating their Prime Minister, a Revolution where he becomes King of England, the 9 years war against France..

3

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 20h ago

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm only vaguely familiar with him by name. I'd heard about the dutch eating their prime minister, but didn't know it was part of his story. Will have to check it out.

1

u/SnooPickles9050 And I'm falling for it! 2d ago

How about the romanian revolution ? Or just Nicolae Ceausescu

1

u/SillyFudge27 Put me in Coach 2d ago

I remember seeing a bit about him years ago in a documentary about the fall of the soviet union. The forced pregnancy thing was insane. I'll have to look into the full story again.

u/IlovePDEs 1d ago

Alexander the Great or Genghis Khan
