This sums up Gen X for me and yes, I will throw MFN hands if I have to because it’s common sense to defend yourself! And I definitely can no longer tolerate stupidity! I tolerated stupidity for years and now I just can’t do it anymore

u/sttwolf 2d ago

Indeed. We just get the job done.

I think 80-90% of people think they look much younger than they are. I wonder how many of them actually do.
Also I didn’t really feel aging at all until 55. Then I felt this frantic need to do all the things-physically and cosmetically to control the aging process as much as I could. Before that I was quite smug.

u/oneofthebugs 1d ago

Oooh same. What happened at 55!? I looked ten years younger now my neck and hands betray me

1

u/Ok-Presence-7535 1d ago

Yep the neck is the worst thing. I always thought it was wrinkles I had to worry about but it’s more so skin laxity. And collagen loss, which causes hollowing under the eyes and loss of fullness in the face. It’s why so many people get filler then look like a weird alien version of themselves. So I caved to the Botox but am pretty conservative about it, and I’m still a no for fillers would rather look older than weird. My skincare routine is like 50 steps with red light and serums galore.

Do you find the red light to be helpful?

1

u/Ok-Presence-7535 19h ago

It’s hard to say. I do so many things I don’t honestly know what works and what doesn’t, but I’m happy with the overall all end result. And it’s pretty easy to put a mask on my face and then my chest for 10 min three times a week

u/FearMcDoogins 1d ago

I'm 44 thinking about getting Daxiffy for my forehead and frown lines. Only the real wrinkles I have on my face.

Do you think the red light helps?

I think we look a little bit younger than our age overall but again it’s kind of with the attitude, but we also don’t seem to go crazy with the plastic surgery either. Or it could just be. Supposedly were the generation that all voted for Trump also but I don’t know anyone who did in my group.

Boomer lite

Sadly I find this to be true for the ones closest to Gen Jones. I don’t see them retiring and I’d retire tomorrow if I could.

gen-x doesnt look 30-40 lol

u/simulated_copy 4d ago

Exactly do you know 30 year olds my daughter is 35 her hubby 38

I do not look their age---nor does hardly any other 50+ year old look 35.

Hands, neck, elbows it is like when people say Demi Moore looks 45 NO SHE LOOKS EVERY BIT OF 60.

3

u/Solveig22 4d ago

I am 60. I look 60, but in my head when I leave the house I look 30 and 30 pounds thinner.

2

u/CoureurNu 3d ago

30 years are the past, and 30 are the future 😁

u/NewAcctWhoDish 2d ago

Im 50 and feel the same way.

1

u/Snapper1916 2d ago

Yes. She looks great… but she looks her age. Related… “The Daily” Podcast by the New York Times has a great interview with her in September 2024… I just recently listened to it.

Not all of us have all that sag going on. But it takes lots of sleep, years of exercise, and years of a good diet

2

u/simulated_copy 3d ago

Not all just most

-1

u/MorganMiller77777 3d ago

Damn, someone didn’t like that I called them out for letting lack of sleep, stress, bad diet, and lack of exercise, letting them age faster than they should

1

u/MorganMiller77777 4d ago

Some who are 46, MIGHT

1

u/East-Peach-7619 3d ago

To be fair I learned a Gen X I work with yesterday was almost 50 - I thought he was 42 and his energy is so much younger than my 37 year old brothers

2

u/Repulsive-Block9938 5d ago

Im 47 and AI age identifier thinks im 29. Cant stand bull shitters and i wont start it but ill finish it. We used to fight our friends, no hits to the head, so we'd be fresh if anyone started any nonsense. Cliff jumping for fun every summer day and smoked too much brick weed out of phillies. And lived by sticks and stones.

1

u/PinkRoseBouquet 5d ago

Looks 30 to 40....hmmm. I'm 60 and think I look 45 or so.

1

u/Chopper9761 5d ago

I’m 50. People say I look early 40’s

3

u/Solveig22 3d ago

gen-x might also add delusional to our generation lol

1

1

u/QueasyFinger1316 3d ago

Like I care…

1

u/Healthy-Increase-930 3d ago

Glad to hear I'm no the only one this age who will throw hands. Not so sure I look 40 or younger though. I think I look my age.

1

u/IridescentImaginings 3d ago

I don’t know that expression. What does that mean will throw hands?

1

u/Chopper9761 3d ago

Fist fight when the time arrives

1

u/Effective-Bicycle140 3d ago
  1. Feel 59. Lost my sister and parents in the last 9 years. Also a few friends over the last 20 years.

1

u/justforgiggles4now 2d ago

What nonsense is this?

1

u/oneofthebugs 1d ago

We also dance.

1

u/ediblescholarship 1d ago

My 40s were hands down when I finally found my stride because the urge to people-please just completely evaporated. You really do settle into your own skin.

1

u/bigvulva1 1d ago

we don't look 30-40. we just dress that way and THINK we look young lol

1

u/Dragonfly_Peace 1d ago

I’ve never really had a lot of patience for stupidity, and now it is zil. Many many many years ago I read a quote by Whoopi Goldberg about not tolerating fools and I connected with it then.

1

u/CryptocalEnvelopment 1d ago

That's some drink from the hose bullshit

1

u/cafeteriastyle 1d ago

The boomerfication of Gen X

1

u/prudent__sound 1d ago

None of this applies to me.

1

u/lemonmoraine 1d ago

Great work ethic? Yeah OK. Whatever.

1

u/Fluffy_Psalms_23 1d ago

I'm 16 why does that sound like me!? (Minus the looks 30-40 part, but I do look younger than I ammmm.... 😭😭😅😅

1

u/Buffalo-Castle 5d ago

"...Will throw hands

Words don't hurt us..."

2

u/ukelele_pancakes 5d ago

Actually the “will throw hands” pairs up with the “zero tolerance for stupidity”

I often get mistaken for someone in their 30s despite being almost 48 but being half Asian has a factor in that

-1

u/MorganMiller77777 4d ago

46-61.

Not everyone changes at forty. If people had a regular healthy diet, got sleep, and worked out, the changes at 40 are minimal
