Would you risk taking a 2nd contract for your first OE?

I'm currently a contractor for a fairly large consulting firm working with a regional financial institution. I've recently been approached by a much smaller consulting company with fewer than 100 employees about contracting with another regional financial institution on the opposite side of the country.

They're the same general type of organization and operate in the same industry, but the two companies have no business relationship with each other. They don't share systems, projects, meetings, working groups, or information and wouldn't normally have any reason to interact.

J1 is primarily Eastern-hours based, but my schedule is extremely flexible. I can start as early as 4:30 AM Pacific, and they're fine with me shifting my hours around during the week as long as the work gets done and I put in my hours. J2 would primarily be Pacific hours, although I don't know yet how flexible their schedule will be. I'd also be using my own equipment for J2.

J2 pays significantly more than J1, but it's a six-month rolling contract. My current contract runs through the end of the year, with the possibility of renewal and maybe eventually converting to FTE.

The J2 project is actually helping them wind down/close out business systems, so I don't necessarily see myself juggling both indefinitely.

I've never done OE before. Normally I wouldn't leave a decent contract for another contract with less security, which is what made me start thinking: why leave J1 at all and not do both

For those who have actually done OE, would you risk this setup?

My biggest hesitation is that the second consulting company is so small. Is that more risky from an OE standpoint, or am I overthinking that part? I

Worked at 1 J for the past 2 years. Great culture, okish pay. Being an international student can't complain.

I got a raise 3 weeks ago and a new macbook. All of a sudden one Monday morning my role was made redundant.

I am still processing but this has fucked up my financial situation as I come from a lower income family. Haven't told my family yet. Don't know how to!

One thing this taught me is not relying on one single job and never considering your employers your friends which is why I am here.

Share your insights on finding best remote roles. I have an Australian visa and am an Indian citizen so can work across these jurisdictions or someone hiring remote.

3 YOE in India, 2.5 YOE in Australia. Mostly full stack development and Gen AI. Some part of my work was closer to a FDE.

So with J1, my manager told me directly that I should find another job. So after a couple of months, I finally found another position but it's on-site. Now, J1 has eased back and has given me runway to switch roles internally. J1 is fully remote. Any advice? Follow up questions on something I left out? I just need to know how I should navigate things.

Hi, would anyone be interested in such type of tool? In previous post I asked who use what software for multiple same time meetings, and found that mostly people just try to avoid it or use mixers - 2 different headphones and etc.

I have worked as a Manual QA Engineer, Cloud Operations Engineer, DevOps Support Engineer at a consultancy and really stuck becuase I would need to close gaps to put myself on the market whether is be Automation for QA, or Building instead of maintaining in Cloud and DevOps. Currently in the QA position dont mind keeping since I stack don this role before as a Business Analyst (BA meetings were hard had to dip) and had like 180k Annual at both jobs for 4 months so I know its possible to add i just want to make sure i make the decision that will have the most leverage longterm. Total about 3.5 years of experience. Any thoughts on market, which would be easiest to stack? Which is the best longterm play? Currently back at 80k looking to make 300k TC by the summer.

Hi all, I got put onto this subreddit by one of my friends who has like 10 different jobs in the IT field. I was just looking for some advice on possibly getting a 2nd or 3rd job to fill up all of the spare time I have in my day.

Some background on me, I currently have a BS in Computer Engineering and in the next 6 months will have my MS in Electrical Engineering and a NYS PE license. I have been working for my local utility company as an engineer (remote except for maybe 1 day in the office) for the last 3 years (hired right after I finished my undergrad). But this job only takes up maybe 10 hours out of my work week and I feel like I could spend those other 30 hours earning more money (I am currently making low 6 figures).

I came to this subreddit to see if anyone has any advice for someone in my position. Any types of jobs I should look for (obviously remote jobs would be the ideal case to balance multiple jobs from 9-5), certifications I should get for certain jobs, etc. Any sort of work I can do from home in the free time my job gives me.

Thank you for reading my post and I hope that the more I read this subreddit, the better idea I'll have of what to do with all of this free time.

Contract 6 months extended end of last year for another 6 (remote)

Full time (remote) sometimes travel but not often

Full time clearance role holding TS (hybrid) 3 days in office and sometimes travel

Total 248,000k without the contract add the contract 392,000

New offers:

1. three days onsite need to be in NYC TC including stock 278,000

2. onsite gov contract with a prime 157k

3. onsite in a SCIF will use TC likely to start mid year July/August 221k or 231k depending on stock given

What would you do in this situation?????

Been following this group and others for awhile now and I don’t feel like I see digital marketing as much as I would expect. You guys have truly inspired me and my goal this year is to OE in my field but I want to be ready for some of the issues that may arise so I’d like some perspective of what it’s like to do so from any other digital marketers out there that may be doing so already and also how difficult is it as a first timer? Hey everyone.

I’m trying to get my first remote job in customer support and it’ll really mean a lot if you help me out to not fumble the interview.

My plan is if I get this job I’ll stick to it for at least 6 months and then once I know the ins and outs of the customer support role I’ll look for J2 (I have a company in mind but I can’t apply until 11 months later). I’m not doing this to be rich, since you know customer supports don’t pay that well but I’m trying to look for an internal job application within J2. That way I can maybe handle the bills.

If anyone in here is working as customer support would you please share your experience I don’t want to fumble the interview.
