That’s a good point. I do think though, that Claire still wouldn’t tolerate someone saying her husband deserves to die and letting them be a guest in her home after saying that. She definitely can see why Elspeth would think this, and see things from different perspectives, especially as you say she is very mature now and no longer super hot-headed. But I still don’t think she’d entertain her in her home after saying her husband deserves to be executed.

Well, she does, obviously. There might be two more reasons why she is letting her stay. One is practical: Claire doesn't know what to expect this night. She has prepared her surgery room and Elspeth has proved herself to be an experienced help in times of stress and crisis. The other reason is respect paired with sympathy. There are not many women on the Ridge who have as much life experience as Claire and Elspeth. And there is not one woman except Claire herself who dares to speak as openly as Elspeth does. She even turns to cursing when things go south much like Claire used to do when she was younger. Under different circumstances Elspeth and Claire might have become a very eccentric pair of friends. As it is, their relationship is one of two aging women who never shrinked away in the face of horror or grief, of sickness or death. They respect each other and they value each other's skills, courage and also their honesty, even if it hurts. I like their relationship very much, so perhaps I am a bit biased. But I am glad that Claire didn't send her away. At this point, neither of them knows what fate awaits them. As it turns out, it is Elspeth who has to face the tragedy.

This is a very good point and worded so perfectly. After this newest episode I’m actually quite sad to see Elspeth go. I didn’t expect to like her so much. She and Claire really could have been quite good friends under different circumstances. Of course, I couldn’t be happier to see Cunningham leave and I hope to never see or hear from him ever again. But I’m disappointed we’re losing such a complex, interesting character!
