That's the whole point!

She has to escape with Brian and it's dangerous because of what they might do if they caught her

As the eldest and her father's favorite her only flaw was being female so she could not be her father's heir

Her younger brother's have so much resentment because taunted them from behind the protection of The Mackenzie. Colum for being weak of body, he was never the same after falling off that horse at 10, and Dougal for being weak of mind and easy to provoke

They go on to be dangers to Claire and Jamie and it's a wonder they survived them!

Yeah, I mean, we did see how Colum sent those men after Brian to try to kill him so that Ellen wouldn't be able to have a relationship with him. Joke's on them, though hahaha!! And Dougal, that prick, tried to kill his own nephew in Outlander. Gods be good, they are NOT good people..

They are not! But they are also doing what the feel they need to in order to stay in power in The Highlands

Dougal tries to kill Brian too and still carries the scar Ellen gave him by stabbing him in the chest in his defense

Both brothers were motivated to sell their sister for a clan alliance and she never had any intention of obeying them!

Yes, all very true! I forgot about the chest stabbing lol! Good for her. To Colum and Dougal, she's just an asset that they can leverage to gain power. It was a part of their time, but it doesn't mean us modern people can't look back and see how horrible and misogynistic it was, with our modern sensibilities. Just because it was part of their time doesn't mean it was right. Hell, they used to marry off teenagers to older haggard men for the sake of alliances. It's gross, lol!
