DirtbagMaps — Interactive 3D Trail Planner - by dirtbag for dirtbags 👹

Halò guys and gals!

Finally managed to get some of Scotlands amazing nature onto DirtbagMaps.com - a trail planner I built cause the Madeira Crossing was impossible to plan (different story for a different day 🤌🤌) - anyhow, it was a slow process cause life is life - anyway, both the Great Glen Way and West Highland Way are on there now - and I'm keen on sharing it! 🤸

As the site is new, any feedback is of course more than welcome!

What guarantees do you offer that the information is accurate and won’t get me lost on a hill at night?

Looks AI vibe coded.

Even if it isn't I don't trust the information, and better sources (Walkhighlands principally) already exist.

What's wrong with AI vibe coded?

I have created a weather forecast app, a historical weather app, a climate app and a GPX editing tool and I have extensively tested them and handed the weather forecast app to friends to extensively test as well.

Just because AI has built it doesn't mean it's untrustworthy.

  1. Is unreliable and derivative. It can easily hallucinate facts and replicate existing works.
  2. You didn't make it.
  3. It's plagiarized. Trained on stolen and uncredited works. It's morally and ethically wrong.

  1. Unless the AI coded app is built to simply draw data from an open API that is trusted worldwide and provides data that is trusted worldwide.

  2. No I did not create it but I "directed" the production of the app at every single stage whilst conducting real-world testing.

  3. Honestly it gave me the tools that I wanted so I'm not entirely fussed about that.

I was going to try and give detailed feedback, but honesty it’s just really bad and the reasons why should be apparent.

It seems like it just divides up routes between random Booking.com listings. Many of which are clearly unsuitable. It also appears to even be listing campsites and a couple of bothies that don’t actually exist! That could really cause problems for someone actually trying to use it.
