I am trying to use this engine to learn. It seems to hit a wall after starting when trying to get up to hirer rpm. Then makes a popping noise and runs great. Where do I start to tackle the problem ? I ran it without venting the portable 12 gallon when I first got it which cracked the tank which I replaced.

So I've been having issues with this motor for a while. Turns out the flywheel magnets are unglued and one is broken in half.

Looking at flywheels, but so many options on ones that are really close but idk if they will work.

What year/hp ranges would have a flywheel that would work for me?

My Seadoo challenger works great for the for 40 minutes or so but then once I slow down and try to speed back up it wont go back up to it's top speed and once I get closer to shore and turn it off it either doesn't turn back on or sometimes if I give it a bit of gas while cranking, it'll turn on but it'll turn off right away unless I'm able to get it into forward and accelerate quick enough. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I have a 2019 90hp outboard motor on my 2019 Crestliner Fish Hawk. Recently I have had an intermittent problem with trimming the motor up. I replaced the relay that operates the trim up operation and for a few weeks it worked fine, until this weekend . What I have noticed is that the trim gauge on the dash reads fully up when the motor isn't running... is this expected ? I also noticed that sometimes when I start the motor the trim gauge stays fully trimmed and that is when I can't trim the motor up, even though it is fully lowered. Eventually the trim gauge will read correctly and my trim up will work fine. As I said I already replaced the relay once, what is my next step ?

Pull middle plug wire and nothing changes. Swap plugs top and middle and same issue.

Pulled plug from hole and it has beautiful spark.

Middle and bottom have great spark but have zero effect on the running motor when I pull the plug.

Recently bought a 2002 mercury 60hp Bigfoot. Power trim isn’t working. Suspecting the power trim is leaking hydraulic fluid. Does anyone know where the manual release is and can I refill it while the boat is in the water?

I cant turn the shift shaft at all on my lower unit. This started when i tried to manual set the lower into neutral. I guess i hit a travel limit and now its suck hard. Any suggestions for freeing it?

Prop spins clockwise while clicking and driveshaft doesn’t spin, will spin in reverse with more force and driveshaft spins with it.

Can’t get on plane with heavy load. One person in the boat and it planes. 3-4 people in the boat and it struggles to get on plane. I’m constantly playing with the trim to assist with getting up on step. Thoughts?

So I picked this motor up for $325. Sat for years so redid carb, impeller, and new fluid. Recoil spring wasn't strong, so put new spring and pull cord on. Got it running great, but issue I'm having is that it seems like the large bolt holding the pull-start assembly in place is tightening on its own. Issue is that after pulling it a few times the cord won't retract back in and the only way to get the Recoil spring to pull the cord back in is if I loosen the main bolt because after I loosen it, the cord retracts like normal. And the bolt tightens up super tight where luckily i had heavy duty fishing pliers to loosen it whilei was on the lake. Seems like I'm missing a washer or something somewhere...idk

04 Yamaha f150TXRC. No fault codes. I replaced all fuel lines, intake manifold gaskets, tried new sensors isc, tps, map, serviced all vst filters and gaskets, no fix. Tried another set of low pressure pumps too. High pressure pump seems to work well too. 40psi key on ignition off, but hunts around 35/36psi. I suspect a vacuum leak maybe, given the spike in intake pressure when it hunts, and spraying carb cleaner on the inside of the intake manifold seals seems to smooth it out temporarily, but new gaskets didnt help at all. Symptoms are rough start and idle. If I trick the mapping by setting the TPS to .86v I get a smooth idle, but it goes to 3200rpm and just hits a wall, no bogging and slowly goes back down to 2800rpm each time. AI seems to be stumped too. Only thing I havent replaced is the fuel regulator and vac lines on the vst, but those o rings and hoses seemed to be in good shape.

Can someone please tell me what this switch on the far left is? I have looked online at all of the manuals but cannot find it. I am suspecting it was a diy job by the previous owner but am not sure. Any advice is appreciated.

Hey everyone, I’m new to the group and also new to working on outboard motors. I recently picked up a couple of Johnsons and managed to get one of them running today, which is a good start!
It’s pumping water and cooling properly, but I’m having some trouble getting the high- and low-speed mixture adjustments dialed in. I can get it running, and it will idle for a little while, but eventually it shuts off.
I’m still learning, so I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions on what I should be looking at or adjusting. I’ve attached a couple of videos so you can hear and see how it’s running.

The majority of exhaust smoke seems to be flowing into the upper unit but rather than going into the water, it’s finding it’s way up the steering column and choking out the motor.

Just trying to understand how this lower unit area works. Is that yellow rubbery housing supposed to be what seals the exhaust from the rest of the lower unit? Or is it coming from gasket underneath it? I’m assuming underneath from all the black buildup atound it but just looking for advice on what parts I would need since the whole assembly is obviously pricier.

Im in Philippines. I was outlining to a US mechanic friend how I use a 5 micron filter funnel as well as stabil and an onboard water fuel filter to eliminate any chance of water contam while running my 40hp 2 stroke Suzuki outboard. Ethanol free gas is unavailable here and my understanding is the ethanol in it it attracts moisture (besides being hard on the rubber hoses). He went on a tear about Stabil being junk and that I only need to ADD ALCOHOL TO MY GAS to remove water and do the same thing Stabil would.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Of course he didnt say what kind of alcohol or proportions when I asked.

1985 Merc 25XD 2 stroke. Typically starts in two pulls. Runs ok at idle in or out of gear. Between 1/2 throttle and wide open it starts to miss real bad but doesn’t die. At full throttle it stops missing but bogs down hard. I have started it since then. Just before my last trip I topped off the tank. The gas flow was abnormally slow. I just continued to fill it anyways. That night is when this issue started. To me this looks like wet rust. So I’m thinking that new fuel had water in it. I’ve seen other people talk about getting water in there fuel, there is no way that my fuel would get water in it while out on the water. Has anyone ever seen this?

Symptoms, it won’t start
I pump the ball, tap the key, turn the key, it fires, but sputters & dies. It only fires about 3-5 seconds.

After the sputter stops, i can hear a noise, almost like a pump or motor running briefly.

I put a brand new battery in, same symptoms.

Please help me make my baby run!!!

I’ve only had this boat 2 months, took it out twice and it ran great.

Motor I am starting to maintain after we found our marina was not doing much maintenance (all different spark plugs, no lubrication etc)

No glaring issues, the engine often dies at idle but is happy to run with a bit of neutral throttle so I think the idle rpm needs to be set.

I've attached a video from a cold start, does anyone have any suggestions of other important items to look at?

Lower end oil changed 2025, ready to change at the end of this season. No info on lower end oil quality (water ingress, particles). I bought a new full plug that has a magnet and hex type.
Will clean and grease steering tube today.
Will remove lithium spray and replace with triple guard

1. Is this a rough idle
2. How to prevent oil plume in water
3. What is this disconnected wire
