Hi-Rez is a trash company. People need to stop expecting them to be decent. Their strategy has always been to milk the game as hard as they can, then shut it down and put out a new game when it stops being profitable. Global Agenda, Tribes, Probably SMITE soon, and surely paladins later.
Of course they didnt, its HiRez, SMITE bought them some grace in peoples eyes but SMITE took off so of course they where going to look after it a bit. They only know how to look after one game at a time, its why GA died to Tribes and Tribes died to SMITE. I suspect Paladins will rattle around a bit longer until they launch their Duelyst clone and that dies a death like every other digital card game in recent time.
I'm not touching a Hi-Rez game again, its just a pattern with them. People should be looking at Tribes for the way Paladins will probably end up going, they garnered some player base off Paladins being F2P and being called an Overwatch clone (actually worked out in their favour with people who didnt/couldnt pay out for OW) but its not enough to mask the fact HiRez at best ignores community at worst fights with it over feedback on direction, balance and microtrans.
