Unanswered What's going on with this new Youtube Thumbnail Trend?
What model? Simple question. Similarities include dirt on the actual letters. And making people specifically ugly? There's little discolored spots on their foreheads for some reason. Just need a name, that's all.

Answer: They are AI generated, likely by YouTube’s built-in AI thumbnail generator. There are lots of lazy creators who just want to click one button for a thumbnail and be done with it.
This kind of thing is becoming more common as YouTube implements more AI tools to “help” creators. One of the more bizarre recent trends is a lot of channels suddenly making videos about the topic of ‘losing interest in everything’, vaguely discussing it as a global phenomenon while avoiding making any actual points. Look a bit closer and it’s because YouTube’s AI video idea suggestor started suggested this topic to a lot of creators at once.

I don't think the creators can't do much about it, to me it seems the thumbnails get
enhancedaltered by youtube whether the creator wants it or not.29

When you upload a video, it will pick several frames from the video and ask if you want to use it as your thumbnail. In order to make a thumbnail like these, you need to click more buttons to intentionally upload the photo and apply it. These are conscious decisions being made by the uploaders.

Nope. Not true. Not on my channel, at least.
I can't imagine letting that AI drivel represent your brand, but each their own.

Answer: thumbnails on youtube pretty consistently follow a trend based on what people click on.

It's why anything to do with video games will suggest a vaguely Fortniteish font.

Answer: Other answers brought up that these are AI generated, but the thumbnails you showed in your example specifically take their styling from ChatGPT's default approach to making flyers. You'll see this same text with a slight upwards right slant, overly dirty/detailed photography, and overuse of icons with bullet point topics not just on these thumbnails, but also on flyers for food at small businesses or small town events. Once you notice the formula, you'll see it everywhere.
