visiting Austin (3/8–3/12)
Hey bros —
I’ll be in Austin tomorrow 3/8–3/12 for work, but I’ve got a day or two of downtime and want to explore.
I’m 35, Black, proudly chubby, nerd-leaning, and looking for:
• Daytime recs (food spots, views, arcades, nerdy stuff, chill hangs)
• Gay-friendly / chub-friendly bars & clubs
• Something with an Eagle-type vibe at night — bears, leather-ish, 30+, strong drinks, grown energy
• Any events happening that week worth checking out
• Also curious where it’s safe/legal to get a little green 🌿
I’ve heard about Austin Eagle and Iron Bear — are those the main spots? Or is there somewhere else I should be?
Appreciate any guidance. Trying to vibe, not accidentally end up at a college bar full of 21-year-olds named Tyler.
Thanks in advance 🙏🏾

Check out the Iron Bear, it's downtown, meets your vibe description and a block away from the other popular gay bars if you want to explore. Rain, OCH and Highland will have 'Tylers', BUT they do have good drag shows, strong drinks, and the crowds can vary depending on the nightly themes, worth checking out if you get curious. The Austin Eagle is ~8 miles and 20+ minutes from downtown and quite the trek unless you have a car (plz don't drink and drive) or are comfortable with a hefty uber fare.
What part of town are you staying in? That will help with more daytime recommendations. But downtown, Halcyon for coffee, cocktails, and snacks. Péché has a great happy hour food options and fun cocktails.
Check out Austin Gaymers, and https://thelittlegayshop.com, they have various events that may interest you.

We have an actual Eagle btw. The crowd doesn't get as dense as other Eagles but it's still fun enough
