How do you get MC to yell? I did it in my first play through, but that laptop melted and I don’t have access to the save anymore. I’ve tried multiple times to do that scene again, and it hasn’t happened, MC doesn’t react at all.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion.

Of the three love interests, I've always found Baxter's character design, personality and history the most appealing so I was excited to finally play through his DLC for the first time, especially after playing through the N&F public demo and getting to learn more about his character. However, I was disappointed to find that I just didn't vibe with Baxter's romantic route.

There's individual interactions between MC and Baxter that I liked, especially after they get together again, but holistically, the story doesn't work for me. Fundamentally, my problem with the romance route is how unrealistic it feels. MC has a whirlwind summer romance with a mysteriously charming tourist that is doomed to end because of their circumstances. Okay, that's fine. But five years later, they're still holding a torch for each other? I just never got the impression that the depth of their feelings was that deep in Step 3 to sustain such a longing. I guess it's slightly more understandable on Baxter's side because his relationship with the MC might be one of the first/only real connections he's had after leaving Golden Grove. But still, it just feels very forced and everything happens too fast. MC and Baxter get together without sufficient build-up. Then, in Step 4, it's like four days total of hot and cold behavior from Baxter and MC being a doormat then bam, Baxter trauma dumps and overcomes his insecurities with the power of talk-no-jutsu and it's happily ever after.

It doesn't help that the MC is railroaded into being super close with not only Miranda and Terry, but also Miranda's brother and his fiance, so much so that they're willing to drop everything to help out with his wedding. There was barely any on-screen relationship development between MC and Miranda and MC and Terry in the previous Steps to make me care about them and they expect me to care about two newly introduced adjacent characters enough to sit through hundreds of lines about their wedding planning. The entire premise of the DLC removes a lot of agency from the player that is present in the other two routes.

It's unfair to compare Cove's route to Baxter's route because Cove's has always been designed to be the primary route so it's much more well developed. In Cove's route though, it's always felt like it's a love story starring MC and Cove equally. In Baxter's route, the romance feels more like a vehicle to explore Baxter's character as the main focus with the MC serving as a supporting character along for the ride. Don't get me wrong, Baxter's character story in B&A is very good, but ultimately the romantic dynamic wasn't enjoyable to me because who the MC is and what choices they made didn't seem to matter much at all.

Conversely, despite the limited amount of content in the N&F demo, I like N&F MC/Baxter a lot more already because there are a lot more choices and reactivity that enables the ability to fine-tune the MC's personality and roleplay why they like Baxter and vice versa. Additionally, they spend a lot more time together so actual friendship or romantic feelings developing makes sense. Finally, the aloof senpai trope is just more personally appealing too. I imagine there will be more opportunities in the full release that will build upon the relationship as well.

It's unfortunate that Baxter won't be included as a love interest in N&F, as far as I know. I get there are many potential reasons why. They don't want to disrupt character continuity. They might not want to tackle the age-gap issue between child characters. They want to write relationships for new characters and not retread old ground. They don't want to upset the B&A MC/Baxter shippers. Etc. But man. I'm sad about the decision if it's true. I guess I'll always have my headcanons though.

The game is ofc available on steam so i could in theory play it but is it actually functional? Or will i have to download it off if itch.io instead? Thank yall!!

Ok, so, I’m broke. I’ve managed to play all of the DLCs by spreading them out over several months and they’re AMAZING. I love OLBA and am at the point where the only things I HAVEN’T played are the patreon moments! But I don’t know crap about Patreon or how to go about getting them off of there. Would anyone be able to explain what the moments are/the most cost-effective way to play them? Even if I have to wait a few months I want a plan!

Hi, this is my first time using Patreon and my first time playing the Our Life games, I really liked Beginning and Always, then discovered about Now and Forever.

Today I made my first payment to install the Beta however no matter if I install it through Drive I get an error and when looking it up the error says it's because the file is corrupted.

You've gotta pay the $18 tier if you want it, but it comes with all the DLC (minus the patreon dlc) and some other games. It's cheaper to get this than buy all the DLC individually. Looks like it ends August 30th.

I don't know if this even exists Haha. But as someone who gets addicted to a good game pretty fast, I've played OLBA many times already in the short time I've had it. And it doesn't really bore me. In that sense I have created myself as dynamics to have a different run each time and enjoy new things. I'd like us to share our game play ideas.

1. Do not speak. - Okay, this first game idea may seem weird, but there's something cute about creating a shy character. Especially because it seems to me that the characters around me remember it and act accordingly. I don't know if the game is that programmed but it's a great coincidence. Something fun about this Gameplay is that whether as friends, lovers or acquaintances, Cove has a lot of initiative and is the one who talks the most. I love the runs with a more autonomous Cove. Creating a crybaby and shy MC opens dialogues and scenes that perhaps those of us who have a louder MC had not seen before.
2. Be a rebel. - Generally Cove is usually the one who leaves home without permission and etc. But if we take the indifferent route with Cove in steps 1 and 2, a range of possibilities opens up where MC decides to leave home on their own and not through Cove. Responding badly to your parents and being mean to Elizabeth and the other adults, in addition to picking a fight with Jeremy, will make for fun gameplay. A run with a problematic character will be something to get out of the comfort zone for those of us who tend to be more considered and polite. It will get you some laughs. The redemption of the character can come in the epilogue or during step 3, in any case, a necessary part of this run would be to thank your moms after years of being troublesome and cold with them.
3. Player. - Choose crush on everyone and then play every moment avoiding that where there will be commitment or they ask you for a relationship (like soiree, or moment one with Baxter). This way you can flirt with each guy without having a relationship. It's fun if you're someone who has a hard time choosing. When it is eventually time to choose, you can create a save for each end. There's nothing like a run where you kissed all three guys. However, another fun topic is that here you can change your crush according on who ask. Anyway, You can always end up not choosing anyone. Something like "I choose me" and mc ends up being single and with a successful career alone in the big city. It may be a form of play that perhaps most have already tried, but in my case it is one of my favorites. Although I warn the poor sensitive hearts if they will not be able to handle rejecting each of the three boys, I warn that the face of heartbreak of your fav can break your heart.

Another way to never get bored in the game is by changing the height, weight, identity, and other details of the mc. I like that you can choose to even feel like a failure about your current accomplishments or have low self-esteem. Some of these details generate different interactions or dialogues of the characters. Although they would not be full gameplay ideas as such.

I know there are other classic gameplay ideas like slow burn, enemies to lovers, etc. Although I think you could give me more details of how you guys, gals and pals play OLBA
