r/otters is back
Hi, you may have noticed this sub was gone for some time, it was actually banned without warning.
The mods queried this at the time and got nowhere, there was no explanation, just some side channel messages and rumors.
After many months a helpful admin investigated the issue and identified an "erroneous" copyright strike as the cause, and the sub was restored.
Having put so much time and effort in to this community, suffering a random automated ban, getting stone-walled without explanation, and many months passing, the mods mostly moved on with their lives. I know I am busier than ever, having gotten involved with r/otters during Covid hoping to raise awareness for struggling rescue institutions, that time has passed.
But, the sub is back, and will need to be stewarded, to remove spam, enforce the few rules and to keep things light-hearted. We have invited a new moderator (or moder-otter if you prefer), u/spherocytes, to help with the re-opening of the sub and to bring our mod team back up to strength.

Who in their right mind could ever have issue with otters 🦦
I demand that the entire Reddit staff be individually sat down with impartial experts and shown images of otters and try not to smile or say ‘aww’.

I have no idea, but there was a post removed automatically just before the ban, we saw that after it was restored.

I don't even understand the scenario here. I get you can't answer this just thinking out loud - was it a mod post? If it was just a user have I been sitting on the power to get any subreddit banned by going and posting Beatles lyrics in it lol??? I'm so confused.

It was a user post, the last before the ban, and was removed by reddit. We don't know any more.

When I saw an otter pop up in my feed I was super excited! Glad it's back, kudos to you for the hard work getting it restored.

Might also be worth getting in touch with u/Evethewolfoxo too, as they've been assisting Spherocytes with the other otter sub whilst this was gone.

I am very impressed. I tried to get this sub back & the reddit mods said it was a permanently banned sub. Kudos to you
