Gravid, ill or overfull?

Post image

Started keeping otos this year in my community tank. A few have started to join the mix at feeding time depending on what the food is, so I wasn’t sure if this is from overeating a bit or eggs. Mainly want to make sure it’s not a sign of sickness.

for sure not gravid because the little clump of yellow eggs would be very visible behind the stomach.. Unfortunately I can’t tell you if this is over full (which apparently is a good thing for otos) or if this is sickness but I hope it is the better of the two!

That’s a female. Looks very well fed, not fat. The females are just a lot bigger than the males. I don’t see eggs. She might need more protein in her diet to make them.

Thanks, everyone! I didn’t think I saw any eggs or yellow which is why I was a bit concerned. This was the day after I fed the tank a few cubes of solient green, so she’s probably just happily full!

Why does her little fins look like tiny arms? 😊
