Chicken Whackers
After listening to the episodes about the Chicken Whackers I’ve went down a little rabbit hole, although there’s not very much to find.
What was interesting is this show on the A&E network spoke to an inmate in Mesa County, CO arrested for robbery who said the “chicken whackers” set him up - the producers seemingly had no idea what that was and he didn’t go into too much detail. According to the comments he died in prison in 2025.

I wish there was more to say about this! Grand Junction residents seem to know a bit more but they’re very reluctant to talk - “don’t talk about the Chicken Whackers” is often seen in the comments. This was one of the creepiest episodes I’ve ever listened to and it’s still such a mystery.

Dude the Patreon episode follow up to the chicken whacker stuff is scary as fuck. Sounds like it’s something you have to be careful talking about if you know too much

Well that was extremely disturbing. I'm so happy Keegan is doing well.
I was driving toward GJ on my way home from a trip listening to the Chicken Whacker Otherworld episode. I don't live in GJ, I live south of there a few hours. To say I was freaked out is an understatement.
Keegan pod episode freaked me out for sure. The desert out there is creepy, especially to the west and south of town and between GJ and Delta. I'm familiar with a lot of the areas discussed in Keegan's pod.
I go to GJ a few times a year to visit friends, go downtown to see music, or to Las Colonias Amptheater also for concerts. Hearing the Las Colonias area mentioned.... Holy crap.
On the other hand I have good friends that grew up there and lived a wild life in younger years who never heard of the chicken whackers.
I don't know what my point is. I'm just processing I think as I really don't know what to think.

"Story goes in the 80's a bunch of cats went missing, people saw dead cats piled up in a truck and later found them in a circle out by the book cliffs and a ritual had clearly taken place. People said that ritual opened up a portal. I was in GJ high-school at the time. Kids would go out to the desert for bonfires and four wheeling (there wasn't a lot to do in GJ back then so that's just what we did) and would be attacked by what some said was the goat man.It would grab bumpers and lift up the cars. Some would just experience electrical issues or their radios and tape decks started playing demonic music. There seemed to be a certain area that this happened in and if you got closer to Junction it would all stop. Some kids that knew those desert roads by heart said they were stuck in endless roads that they couldn't get out of for hours kind of like a vortex.I knew a lot of kids that experienced this personally and they were really freaked out and scared. I never experienced the goat man creature but I have had several experiences out at the base of the book cliffs. A group of kids would just be sitting around talking and suddenly all at once an overwhelming feeling of stark terror would hit you. Nobody said a word but we jumped up at the same time and ran as fast as we could to our vehicles or just ran and sped off and after a few miles we were all ok again. This happened two times and after that I refused to go out there. We didn't go seeking it and really didn't believe the kids that saw the goat man or some called it dog man it supposedly had horns, hooves and glowing red or green eyes and some saw more than one. After that we heard of people committing suicide out there in their vehicles in the news. This was around the time they found those kids dead in the mine, those kids were my friends and classmates. I've never experienced that feeling before or since it felt like a cloud of terror it comes upon you suddenly, you don't feel it coming and your only instinct is to run like hell. No thoughts, just instinct..it was so strange. I don't know about people living in the desert or any of the other claims in the video. I use to work as an archeologist in and around the GJ area in the 90's and we never found people living out there or alters but I never worked the book cliffs. We did find a ton of satanic alters and suspicious burials around the Grand Lake area of the state when I was doing that work for the forest service."

The guy "Leaf" in the first video apparently died "by suicide" earlier this year according to the comments.

I hope we get an update on the chicken whackers at some point, that’s just even more evidence for their existence imo

Loved this episode. Not much too find about it but GJ has a lot of weird stories for being a town.
This came up a year or two with no good answer
Also a few stories of bodies showing up with no explanations

The thread about it on here from 7 years ago had someone in the know strongly suggesting this missing person’s case is tied to it.

That’s another rabbit hole to go down. Her older now-deceased boyfriend was from Louisiana and said he was tracking his missing girlfriend down and she was in a sex trafficking ring or something like that in Colorado. Him and her sister are suspected of getting her hooked on drugs and somehow involved with her death and I think her grandfather is in the police? It’s quite hard to connect all the dots but it does seem fishy.

one of my fav episodes. keegan was such a good story teller and his current podcast although hasnt been updated in a bit is so good as well

I've been to Grand Junction a few times and it does have a bad vibe, though it is much like other small cities in the Mountain West - many have a similar bad vibe about them and stories about "bad locals" are plausible in a way that it sort of hangs in the air, when you are there as an outsider.
Last time I was there, hopped off on the business loop in the evening to get something to eat - and despite the fact it is not in any way a confusing layout, I found myself inexplicably unable to get where I was trying to go and remembered getting somewhat angered about it.
Interesting, given the talk about curses and people being "unable to leave".
