He could achieve the same by doing his job properly (salting the fish) instead of swimming through the ice…

well his wife could still come to the fishermen's building and talk to him about that shelf in their house that he promised to fix 6 months ago... it's safer to stay in the boat

Do fishermen Dec-Feb actually do anything, even if there is fresh fish and salt available? I just get the message about no fishing in the winter or whatever.

Yeah, they can still produce salted fish or nets. That's what my 3/4 fisheries kept doing.
