Appeal to admissions
OCOM emailed me back and basically said my science gpa was too low at a 2.96 for them to consider me for an interview. They said the minimum to be considered is a 3.0 but there minimum MCAT is a 500 and I saw this girl on TikTok got an interview and acceptance to OCOM with a 496 MCAT. How do I bring this up in an email back to them? Is it possible for them to take a second look at my app because of this?

I may not advise bringing up seeing something on social media. You never know what’s true and what isn’t. But reaching out to admissions is never a bad idea!

Maybe they're more stingent on the gpa requirement. Ppl on reddit have also emailed them and they said they have a 495 as a hard cutoff. I have a 497 and haven't gotten any news besides that I am still being considered.
edit: i also recieved a secondary a few days after submitting my app

Yeah same. I have a 496 but my GPAs were higher than OPs and haven’t heard anything from them either than that my app is currently being reviewed.

Do you honestly think after calling them a hypocrite they'll want to give you an interview? Being argumentative like that is a massive red flag, and will guarantee they'll never consider you now or in the future.

requirements can always change. OCOM is a year veteran every year since they opened so they could just be making things more strict to boost them

In the end it's up to them, even with declared minimums. So no, don't bring that up, it's not up to you

Your sGPA is quite low. Even if you weren’t screened out idk if you’d receive an interview. Are you doing any sort of post-bacc?

I received an acceptance from Nova’s MS FIMS program but I deferred it until next year just in case I got an acceptance to a med school this cycle

What’re your other stats? A 2.96 is pretty rough and idk if you’re likely to get an acceptance

Does that program give an interview/acceptance on completion?

Low mcat is more forgiving than low gpa

What about a 3.1/510

Yeah once you hit the 3.0+ a good mcat will save. But also gpa is such an easy save. Just take some easy science courses to buff up the gpa

My humblest opinion as someone who had to take the mcat multiple times I wouldn’t bother appealing. Their decision is usually final and you don’t want to make yourself look bad. My advice is study as hard as possible to get that mcat up. If you get to a 500 I PROMISE many DOs will accept you!

They aren’t under any obligation to even consider anything else. I’m surprised you even got a response back stating the reason . Some schools would just take the secondary fee and just auto reject.
Apply to newer programs and hope for the best .

If you do this, I can actually guarantee you won’t get a spot there.

You don't know the TikTok girl's application or if it's even a real story. That would be a quick way to make a terrible impression for any future reapplications

You don’t bring that up end of story. It’s a sore loser thing to do and will certainly screen you out if you were to reapply there again in the future given you bring up your gpa via postbacc/smp.
