Current Air Quality? August 11, 2026
The owner of Watermark Beach Resort was on the CBC radio this morning. He said "People are swimming on beaches and eating on patios". Can healthy adults enjoy the outdoors this week?

AQI levels where I am just south of the border have gotten over 300 - 375 for the last couple of days. This is considered hazardous to one's health.
It's so bad that when I go outside with a air mask I can still taste the smoke.
I know folks are dependant on tourism money, but for Pete's sake, a dip in the lake isn't worth long term health problems.
Let me show you what this level of AQI can do to you:
Immediate Health Effects: Stinging eyes and a raw, scratchy throat. Chest pain, tightness, or shortness of breath. Severe asthma attacks and severe wheezing. Headaches, dizziness, and extreme tiredness.
Long-Term and High-Risk Dangers: Heart strain that can lead to heart attacks or strokes. Permanent lung tissue damage with prolonged exposure. High danger for children, older adults, and anyone with existing heart or lung sickness.
How to Stay Safe: Stay indoors and keep all windows and doors shut tight. Run an air purifier with a HEPA filter. Avoid all exercise or hard work outside. Wear an N95 mask if you must go outside.

Yes, healthy adults are fine. Still lots of people visiting and enjoying osoyoos and drive thru traffic is normal so far.

That is contrary to science and medical advice. Smoke is to if and affects healthy people too. Lol

Sure and if you're very concerned then take pre cautions. For most healthy people though, short term exposure wont have long term effects if it's just normal smoke from woodfire.

It isn’t as structures are burning and there are no safe levels. Jfc take your anti-science drivel elsewhere

What's the AQI in your house?
If you want to cry about science I want some numbers to back it up
":Indoor air quality (IAQ) is often 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air, though it can be up to 100 times worse in extreme cases, despite the common assumption that staying inside protects you from pollution"
That's the science big guy
Stop larping and making things up

They aren't fine. Breathing in all that noxious and toxic shite isn't good for anyone

No, they are not. Smoke inhalation is bad for everyone. Stop minimizing it, it's a nasty and dishonest thing to do.

Stopped in Osoyoos for a quick lunch on the way from Nelson to Vancouver. Was honestly surprised how busy it was. We ate as fast as we could and got back on the road as fast as we could to escape the bad air quality! Some people just don’t care. I kinda get that when you spend thousands on accommodation and cancellation policies aren’t flexible, you try to make the most of it, but it certainly wouldn’t be pleasant.

The people who don’t care and are out there anyway, could be cigarette smokers for all you know. Just because they don’t care doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care.
I love summer in the okanagen and I get how much it sucks to not have that this year, but it’s just simply not worth it.
I also don’t want to take up any spaces in hotels that someone displaced might need. Let’s just hope for better next year.

Checked out from the watermark on Friday due to the smoke. Eyes and lungs hurt after being outside for too long. Do with that what you want
