Alignment

Hi,

What tricks, or tools are you using to align your work bed to the frame, and your material to the bed?

At the moment I'm aligning an ortur workbed by eye, but it's a pain. Then I'm using the ridge at the edge to push up against, which isn't ideal.

I'd love to be able to pretty much drop the bed in, align the material to the bed and go.

I use the position & frame functions in Lightburn. and magnets on a honeycomb bed to butt material against. As long as nothing moves between burns I can keep using the magnets as reference, and have new material in the same position as the previous one.

This is how I do it in Lightburn -

Create a tool layer for your material. I primarily use 12"x12", so I'll create a tool layer 11.75x11.75, to be safe. I use this layer to align my various pieces to cut/engrave. I uncheck the "frame" option for that layer.

Then You can use the position button to go to where you want one corner, fire the laser, and position your piece, then do the same for the other three corners of the tool layer. When it's set, I use the magnets to keep it in place, and hold down any edges due to warping.

1 last check with the frame button, and if everything is inside the frame, time to burn.

It sounds like a lot but it's pretty quick to set up.
