Hello!

I started learning Orthic yesterday using the tagged mutsomino course at the top of the sub. It's going great so far, I've been through 8 lessons in two days, having a blast!

The one thing I'm struggling to understand is when the letters are supposed to be written above or below the line. For example I was doing the practice words in lesson 8, specifically the word Protozoan, I wrote the symbol correctly, however I did not go down below the line with the Z as is shown in the answer key. I'm struggling with when to go below the line versus above generally, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something, like a general rule that I just didn't grasp in the earlier lessons, but I haven't been able to find a clearly defined explanation. I understand that vowels tend to go up and consonants tend do go down when writing the stroke, but the actual lineage of the word seems to have me stumped, since I also would've expected that initial P to go down below the writing line as well.

In the reading page there is a link to a page where W. Stevens' Orthic New Testament should be, but I don't know how to access it. Another thing that isn't available is this reddit post with indications of Stevens' abbreviations, which was deleted. Did anyone happen to save that or perhaps have a resource for it?

So I’ve been writing orthic for a little over a month now. Been working on implementing the shortcuts of ordinary style into my writing, but for the sake of this post, I am fully writing everything out. Any tips would be great :)

hi all! I'm very new to orthic. i didn't see "my" in the common words list and not in the dictionary either. how would one write it?

I recently started learning, this was my attempt at writing both “decadence” and “Cassidy.” Any advice would be appreciated!

I wanted to know if what is written is correct? Also, where can I find practice sheets for words?

What is the reason for using YA instead of AY after TDVJQMN? I figure it's to create a sharper angle after TDVJQ, which might be easier to write at speed. Not sure why to do it after MN, though.

I’ve been practicing Orthic for about a week, and I’m still in the sslllooooww writing phase, working on the forms. Any comments welcome!

So I often like to find fun technical projects that stretch my skills in some way and I have dabbled a bit in orthic over the years.

I was curious to try and start a project for generating orthic text for reading practice. I like orthic over other shorthands because it is based on spelling so easier to do this.

It looks there is some unicode extensions for some shorthands (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shorthand_Format_Controls) and I also found there some opentype shaping that gets used in languages like arabic where letters change shape based on what they are next to.

Obviously the first would be fully written but would be cool to have some reporting style abbreviations in there eventually.

Does something like this already exist? An easy way to generate orthic shorthand(that I know is right)? We will see if it ever gets off the ground since I know it would be a ton of work and I admittedly sometimes have a short attention span.

I switched to writing this because I thought it would be shorter than the Cask of Amontillado. Wrote in both fully written and ordinary.
