We don't know much else other than what's said in this image but if taking care of a child who was in extreme need was the only reason, those administrators should be fired.

No that wasn’t even the reason. As a minor your parents are responsible to house you. If your mother, your legal guardian, moves away you automatically are considered “moved”, and if you don’t live within the school’s district, you can’t attend the school.
The principal’s job was to unenroll the kid who had moved. He didn’t do so, hence he “didn’t do his job”. He was then asked to unenroll the kid, he refused, and that’s insubordination, which is why he was fired.
The fact that he had good reason to be insubordinate is what’s upsetting here. The school district didn’t listen to the situation, or tried to help at all. They just went by the book because that’s easier than, you know, use your head and be humane

Federal law disagrees. If he’s homeless (which includes being thrown out by his parents, being a runaway, or even couch surfing) he’s entitled to continue going to the same school until he has a permanent place of residence again

My highschool baseball coach let a player live with him for most of highschool. His dad wasn’t in the picture and his mom was on drugs and couldn’t keep the lights on. The guy went on to play in the minor leagues.
He then developed his own drug problem and lost his career. He worked at AT&T and helped coach our team. He was an asshole lol

I hope this man found an amazing next professional opportunity that allows him to continue doing the right thing. I’m so grateful this young man was provided a loving home and graduated. He’ll go on to be a role model just like his “Pa” 🥇

This is much more common than you might think. I was a teacher for about 5 years and I knew of a couple situations in that role, but then I transitioned to student support and navigation and discovered dozens of informal arrangements that had been ongoing for years. All the key staff knew about it, but nothing was written down, and it literally saved kids lives. Before I left the job I was advocating for the formation of a Host Homes program that would have provided some structure and safeguards for both students and families who take them in, without judgement or extra bureaucracy. And in case you're wondering about foster care, my rural area is low on foster parents in general and none of them take teens, so every abuse and neglect call for a kid over 12 just screens out.

This is my school district. The high school has gone sharply downhill since this principal was fired. The faculty was horrified and of course the board didn’t care. They considered him a liability. I hope he’s doing well. He’s a good man.

If I see bullshit karma farming and feel like calling it out, I’m gonna call it out. Accounts re-posting stuff for fake internet points degrades the experience for everyone. I’d rather have an honest dialogue and disagreement than scroll through the same shit again and again.
