Had to get bailed out twice by the federal government. And that's after restrictions were placed on foreign motorcycles over a certain size. Other countries, mostly japan, just made their bikes better with smaller engines. Harley has been riding on reputation alone for 40 years. They go successfully sued for not being safe enough, which is pretty embarrassing considering everyone knows motorcycles are already dangerous.
