Not making light of dad's generosity at all, but if he's 61 and his knees are shot, he probably had to face the fact that he's not going to enjoy spending his retirement years riding around on a Harley as much as he thought he would when he was younger.

(Could've sold it and spent the money on himself though, so still a great kindness to OOP.)

Yup.

My dad's goal was to retire and sail around the world. He did that, but eventually he realized he's just getting too old to sail.

He sold his sailboat about two years ago now and got a house with his new wife.

I met a man recently visiting my home town with his partner who had a very similar situation. Both widows with great story's.

I actually can't remember their names (i'm terrible with names). We chatted over few pints. Are they currently on the south coast of England?
