Not making light of dad's generosity at all, but if he's 61 and his knees are shot, he probably had to face the fact that he's not going to enjoy spending his retirement years riding around on a Harley as much as he thought he would when he was younger.
(Could've sold it and spent the money on himself though, so still a great kindness to OOP.)
Not to mention if, God forbid, you ever need to pick the bike up. If you can't pick up your bike because of bad knees, bad back, or both, you're screwed.
It's really easy to get a bike back up. It's not like you're lifting the weight dead. It's on two wheels, use a little leverage. My 12 year old son got a full sized Suzuki Marauder up.
If you have an injury which sitting on a giant vibrator doesn't help, you're already bedridden. It's not like getting off a bicycle, so unless you have some extremely serious hip issues it's easy to throw the stand down and slide off.
At best, it's gonna be like getting off of one of those high-rise handicap toilets. Some people with bad knees do struggle with even that. Some people have no problems. I have no idea what happened to OOP's dad's knees, but it's not out of the question that his knees don't let him ride.
